[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This dragonfly is described as nationally scarce, it is extremely local but can occur in large populations when the habitat is suitable. Strong populations are known to exist on the rivers Severn, Wye and Thames. In Cheshire club-tailed dragonfly occurs on the stretch of the River Dee between Shocklach and Aldford. The short flight period of the dragonfly restricts surveying opportunities to the last week in May and first two weeks in June. The River Gowy, which flows within 5km of the Dee, could possibly provide further suitable breeding habitat for the dragonfly, although regular dredging of the river channel may pose problems.

The club-tailed dragonfly is a medium-sized yellow/green and black dragonfly with a noticeably club-shaped tail. It favours slow flowing rivers with silt deposits for the larvae and adjacent tree cover for the adults. The larvae may take up to five years to mature with emergence occurring in late May early June.

Hello Joey,
Very colourful looking fellow!. Good close-up. Think the moment you clicked it turned its head and said 'cheese'.:)
TFS, Smitha.

How wonderful to have photographed a rarity!
Great close-up. Looks like some alien football player. ha ha Beautiful!

This is a very attractive dragonfly, Joe.
The focus is slightly soft; other than that, it is a well composed partial macro of this insect.
TFS.

Hi Joe,
a wonderful and impressive dragon - I love them - they are different from all the others with the seperate eyes.
Your shot is very good, we can see so many sharp details, thanks.
I also saw this specie and also the Western Club-Tail this spring, it was amazing ...
Bye

Hi Joey

This is really a lovely dragonfly and one still on my list to take photos of (i only have a few but i'm not really happy with them).
The close-up here is great and the details you managed to get - especially on the wings - are excellent.
There seems to be a bit of a motion-blurr (especially on the head) but that's easily explained by the long shutter speed.
If i can make a sugestion: when you find dragons so nicely placed on isolated twigs, try to use the macro mode, not the supermacro, and get the entire body in a frame with a lovely blurred BG behind them. If you can't get that close, you could also try keeping some distance and using your zoom.
I'd try that and see how it goes. If you don't get good results, please let me know...i might recomand something else then ;)

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Hi Joe,
It's a great POV, with good detail, light, and natural color. Nicely OOF BG works well.
Difficult to get it sharp at 1/13th handheld, but you did well..
