Composition is excellent and light, stripes of de falling drops and BG colors are wonderful.
You've managed to get a great image with these high ISO settings in this nasty kind of weather.

great colors nice DOF good pose by the bird. nice focus. be careful about getting your camera wet. i'm not sure about the D80 but in general digital cameras and water don't mix well.

Wow Gary, what a nice picture! This house sparrow is a beautiful specimen and as you say, quite often overlooked. Nice composition and nice background too. I like the raindrop and the colour of the feathers. Thank you!

What a lovely capture of a male House Sparrow despite the rain, Gary! You have chosen the camera settings with a discerning eye and made a wonderful picture. The view from the rear presents the plumage of the bird to great advantage.
After reading your note, my interest in this bird gets a little spurt of renewed enthusiasm. In fact House Sparrows are the only birds that inhabit my building compound sort of permanently. I photographed them eagerly after I acquired my new equipment, but then lost interest after gathering the impression that shooting these common birds was tentamount to having nothing better to do :-)!

A good shot Gary considerinhg the miserable weather we have had recently I expect Scotland was even more showery, nice background blur and fine pose showing back feathers and you managed some catch lights in the eye considering the light tfs rgds Necip.
