Hello,

i took this whilst out looking for more colourful subjects, such as Dragonflys and the like which seem to be everywhere on TN at the moment! Having only captured fleeting glimpes of them i decided to take a few shots of the humble Honey Bee instead. I've not much experience with shooting this kind of critter (as you can see) so any pointers or suggestions very gratefully recieved.

some Honey Bee facts:

Honey bees are familiar insects to most people. Bees live in colonies dominated by an egg-laying queen bee. Worker bees are all females, daughters of the queen. Male bees (drones) are produced in the colony only when needed to mate with new, virgin queens. Honey bee workers collect pollen and plant nectar. Honey bees are not predators nor scavengers, they feed exclusively on plant nectar and plant pollen.
Plant nectar is transformed into honey for storage and is the colony's main food reserve. Pollen is the colony's protein food reserve. With one exception, honey bees are much less aggressive than yellowjackets, with which they are often confused.

shot in RAW, cropped, selective darkening on some minor OE parts of the flowers, converted to JPEG, resized for TN and sharpened.

thanks for looking..

Hello Paul,
Looks to me you did quite well, you have sharp details and vivid colors and a nice composition, well done and cheers Paul.

Hi Paul.
This is great. Sharp detail on the bee, DOF great to make the bee stand out, lighting is wonderful showing all the little hairs on the bee.
The one thing I would suggest for next time is to be careful what is in front of your subject especially if it falls out of focus, here the out of focus flower grabs the eye first and is a little off putting. The attention should go straight to the great photo you have done of the bee, he deserves all the attention.

Hello Paul

I salute you on this tribute to the honey bee.Your DOF and POV are very good.I like the lovely OOF BG.The details are sharp.Honey bees are disappearing and there is a theory that cellular phones may be interfering with their internal navigation systems. That combined with a recent parasite ,the industrious honey bee seems to be in some trouble, to all of our peril.TFS
