[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had totally forgotten that I had any pictures of the Red Deer that I shared by camping area with each afternoon back in February when I was in Scotland camping wild on my own during a very cold but wonderful spell of weather that resulted in many wonderful landscape photos.

This herd of red deer repeatedly came down every afternoon into the valley bottom where I was camped. The camping area is one of the few areas of what I would class as green grass which they were after. The rest of the area is open moorland and heather which is not such good eating if you are a deer. They also came down for the river which was also my source of water.

Anyhow, this male red deer was the bravest of the lot and frequently came very close to me and my tent. Here I had to actually zoom out to be able to get him into the picture. He was less that 5m from me a this point and did on accasion get even closer.

The picture was taken in RAW, converetd to jpeg and resized, then a slight USM applied. It is a full frame picture. The deer has been lightened very slightly using a second lighter layer and a mask becuase I was shooting into sun. Hopefully not too much detail has been lost because of the high compression needed to get it below 200kb.

lovely warm light and golden colour make this a great shot. He looks like quite a young stag, must've been great to get so close.

It is the beautiful quality of the light that jumps out at the viewer. A lovely shot.

the light glow adds to it,
They spend a long time in this pose! It takes ages to get one where they get their heads up for a while.

Hi Emma.
So impressive close-up. 5 m it is fantastic. I shoot birds at this distance very seldom.
I like beautiful almost evening sunlight, nice scenery and great quality of the picture.

A very good capture of this red deer!
I like your POV and the pose of the deer got.
The beautiful and low light makes it fur looks great, and draws a line around its legs.
Very appropriated the way the background was nicely blurred to stand out the subject.

Hi Emma,
How wonderful to share your camping area with such great animals. It must be so much better than sharing it with loud people. This male deer seems completely relaxed with you so close.
You kept great details and colors with shooting into the direction of the sun. It even gave you some great soft shades. Details still look good to me. There is this one strange spot just bove the hip of the deer. Is it a reflection from the sun on the water?

A beautiful image of this red deer feeding in the winter afternoon light.It looks very fitting there in natural surroundings.Very good focus and detail.The lighting is a lovely glow.TFS
