Another view of a Peacock -this time in slightly better weather and hence less noisy image. Hope you like it.

In a nutshell, these beauties are UK resident and overwinter as adults. They are typically woodland edge and ride species, more so in my experience than Small Tortoiseshells.

Eggs are laid en masse on Nettle(urtica dioca)during the Spring and the young larvae feed communally living on the slik they spin until almost ready to pupate at which point they split from their crowded comfort and move off in smaller groups of 2-12. Then when ready completely, they move off to pupate, hanging upside down until the bautiful chrysalis is formed. The new generation hatches late June early July and nectars. Soon it finds a hiding place to overwinter and it remains there generally until next spring when it ventures forth to nectar and mate.

Hello Julian !
A nice picture ! The colors are bright and luminous, the pose of the butterfly is wonderful, with the wings wide open, and the BG is gorgeous, nicely blurred to make your subject stand out. Also a very beautiful composition. Maybe a larger DOF would have been nice, to have the hing wings in focus also. Anyway, it is a beautiful picture. Well done !
Valerie.

Julian, great photograph this. wonderful BG, colours and details.

Warm regards, kiran
