[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the robin I mentioned when I posted the jay photo. Both days we were camping, at roughly 15h15, it arrived to sun itself at the side of the path. I've never seen birds go to this extent before when soaking up the sun. This little bird went through all sorts of gyrations. We first noticed it when it landed and promptly flattened itself to the ground with both wings outstretched. Initially we thought it was ill and then, realizing it wasn't dying, that it might be enganging in "anting" ... only we knew there were no ants (one of the first things you check when setting up a camp). As we watched, it shifted around to the positition in the photo, body feathers fluffed to the max and, again, the wings out stretched, sometimes both sometimes just one. Most of the time it held it's beak pointed up, just like those sun bathers on the beach who want to make sure their throat and the underside of their chin gets tanned. (only the robin didn't have a reflective mirror, lol). Over a 15 minute period it evenually made a full 360 degree turn. When it was done it flitted up into a tree and gave itself a good preening. Although it's tail was in dire straights with only about three feathers, it didn't look too scruffy by the time it was done.

I have to say that it was thoroughly enjoyable watching the antics of this little feathered visitor. That's what I enjoy most about fishing... it's a quiet sport that gives us the opportunity to just sit and observe the natural world.

This isn't that good a photo, but I thought it worth posting because of the subject. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has observed this.
