Hi all, thought I'd pop in.

I've just returned from the Isle of May in Scotland. We've spent a few days photographing seabirds. The weather has not been great but we had one or two good sessions.

This is a shot of a Puffin coming in to land. A popular seabird very much confined to predator-free coastal situations, largely in the north, the puffin breeds on islands such as Skokholm and Skomer, away from the attentions of predators who invade its burrows. Their private life is surprisingly mysterious, as little is known about where they go during their migrations. They are present on islands such as Skomer in Summer, and head out to sea for winter.
The most striking feature of the puffin, the multi-coloured bill, also disappears out of breeding season.

A member of the auk family - which includes guillemots and razorbills - puffins short wings enable them to fly underwater when diving for food. A gregarious bird with a number of group rituals involving both greeting and courtship, their social rituals are still only just beginning to be understood.

Another wonderful capture for your growing Puffin collection Paul. A perfectly composed shot due to good timing. Sharpness and exposure is excellent. The plain BG nicly isolates the bird. Very good work..

Hello Paul,
Lovely shot! I've seen a movie about puffins not so long ago. I have feeling they look quite starge when flying, as if they had trouble keeping themselves in the air.
Anyway, the picture is great. Nice timing, perfect quality and spot on lighting.
VERY WELL DONE!

brilliant shot, well done

Wonderful image, Paul! I love the stormy background with sun in front, great capture and excellent sharpness.
