[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Gordale Scar - I consider this to be one of the UK's finest hidden nuggets and was first drawn to my attention on seeing a painting by James Ward.
I first went there last year with a friend on a tour of Britain and it immediately took my breath away, it's an awe inspiring spot that leaves you speechless - only if you have been there can you know what I am trying to get across. The picture here is of the lower of two waterfalls in speight, normally one can scramble up to beyond the top waterfall (which is out of shot) to walk out on to the dales, but was inaccessible on this visit.
The Gordale Scar is a limestone ravine near Malham Cove (another outstanding beauty) which was carved as a meltwater channel beneath the Devensian ice-sheet. It is thought that there was once a roof which covered the Scar that has since fallen in, there is evidence of this at the top of the top waterfall which flows through an archway.

Hi Paul,

ah yes, i remember this spot well...what an amazing place. Nice close composition here, with the falls slightly off centre and nice sharp details. The water looks a bit overexposed on my monitor though?
Cheers mate
Paul
