Was sat down by the river taking pictures of the Butterflies and there was a flock of Swallows feeding over the river, they were dipping down in flight and taking a drink from the water. Tried to get a shot of them doing this but nothing worth loading, behind me on the tree a few had landed to rest and i was able to get a couple of shots before they disappeared again.

Swallow ( Hirundo rustica ) Length 19cm.
A common summer visiter to most parts of Britain, The arrival of the first Birds in early April heralds the start of spring. Most Birds depart for their African wintering grounds in August and Septemner but a few will linger until late Autumn. Usually found near the coastal lakes. Recognised in flight by pointed wings and tail with long streamers. Shorter in the Female. Has blue-black upper parts and white underparts except for brick-red throat and fore crown. Nests under eves and in barns, building half cupped shaped nests of mud attached to wall or rafter. Prior to migration gathers in sizable flocks which can be up to many thousands at a time.

Hi Nicholas,
A very clear capture of this couple!
I like the action in the flight of the left bird.
It's good to see how this specie looks like from both views.
I like also the wide composition made.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Nick,
Great capture of the swallow in flight and the one sitting on the twig wich seems to call the other one in.
Perfect composition and exposure.
Love the catch light in the eye of both birds and the movement in the wings of the one in flight wich give a wonderful sence of action.
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards, Harry

What a delightful composition! Great moment you captured there - there's so much personality...or 'bird'-ality.:)
The balance of the photo is wonderful, the colors and sharpness great.

Hi Nicholas,
Everytime you are rapid. I have just seen this nice photo. Great action capture. It is very clear. Sharpness and details nice as like POV. Light on eye of flying swallow wonderful. Good notes.
TFS, well done
Ahmet

Hello Nick,
How good that you saw a flock of swallows! We used to see them in great abundance here but now there only ever seem to be one or two!

Great shot! I particularly like the one which is landing. Interesting detail of how it slows down and prepares to grab the branch! Good eye contact!

Is that bright blue sky? I have to ask because I'm not quite sure!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Nick,
best action shot just before the other one landing on the branch!
excellent exposure and focus also the sharpness and details
real good composition indeed, my compliment, Nick
cheers
Tony

Hi Nick,

A superb capture of these two swallows. I love the way the one is watching the bird about to land. Wonderful in-flight with the raised wings and the "landing gear" down. Beautiful details and a wonderful composition.

Out of smiles - be back.

Jane

Hi Nicholas, very nice composition of these two swallows. The way the one is looking back at the other one flying in works very well. Excellent detail on these guys with very good colour.

Hi Nick,
a great shot of these Swallows.
Sharp and detailed.
Well done,

Nick

Nice shot considering the speed that these little critters zip about at. Looks like you've been having nicer evenings than me with the look of that blue sky.

Keep snapping.

Hello Nicholas,
I was watching the swallows diving to drink too the other day and hoped for a shot but they're sooo quick but great fun to watch. Your capture is excellent of these two. Both sharply in focus in the beautiful light. Great sharpness, natural colours and a very fine composition.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Muy buena composición para una caputa con bastante dificultad. La golondrina de la izquierda la "congelaste" perfectamente . A la de la derecha le falta algo de definiciuón pero no todos tenemos el canon 100-400 L IS jeje Un abrazo Nicholas

Well seen and captured, Nick. The landing approach as stop action is great - the focus on it's head is spot on! Kudos! Cheers, Klaus

My goodness Nicholas. How late this bird must have been for his appointment with a friend who looks rather irked that he would show up so late and flying so fast on his landing. There sure must be a story behind this wonderful picture. My own thoughts give it some kind of life which we cannot hear. And how nicely you have caught the action in this moment of life in the natural world.

Bob

Hi Nick,

perfect moment capture and great composition!

TFS!

Hi Nicholas,
Wonderful shot of these Swallows and a superb moment freezed. The image is sharp and well focused with perfect natural lighting. Set against the blue sky as BG the subjects are highlighted well. Excellent POV to capture this action scene. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hello Nicolas,
These are small birds, making a good inflight capture that much more difficult. I like the interaction of the two, one inflight as the other looks on. Nice detail, good color & exposure, with just a bit of detail lost to shadow on their backsides.
Well done.
Howard

Hi Nick,
