[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a shot that was taken last year.Due to the awful weather that we've had and a recent move to our new house I've just not had the time to go out and about.
Our new house is in the countryside so theres lots of wildlife about here, hopefully I can share some new photos with you all soon.

Ants and aphids have a special relationship. The aphids secrete honeydew which the ants crave.Like tiny farmers they herd the aphids into small groups and will protect them from predators.
Some even take them and their eggs to their nests during the winter and will return them to the plant in the Spring.

Photo was taken hand held with diffused flash and exposure compensation was set at -2.

Hi Andy,
Cool capture of these very tiny subjects..
Nice sharp detail, great exposure, DOF, color, & POV. Sounds great that you live in the country now, you'll have many more opportunites there...sorta like me :)
Very well done!

Hi Andy.
I am glad to see you here with new picture so much. I know this subject, have some attempts to shooting it but yours is more better. Excellent macro shot with terrific exactness and details. I also like diagonal composition of the shot, nice soft lighting and delicate colours. In a word, superb. I hope to see your pictures more often. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Andy,
Good to see a post from you again. I was ignorant of the exact relationship between Ants and Aphids until I read your note, very interesting. I saw a programme years ago about the social behaviour of a colony of Ants, really fascinating to watch, a very structured society.

Great image you have here, good diagonal composition, excellent exposure and detail. I look forward to seeing the images you produce in your new surroundings!
Best regards,
Adrian

Hello MF, how nice to meet you around :)
Hope all follows well.
Nice presentation of the first known farmers in the world, although humans tend to think they have invented everything.
Nice soft light and good details.
Best regards, Felipe.

Hi Andy!

Definitelly not my favourite subjects :-) Photo looks great - details, diagonal composition, lighth and colours - everything is very good. Impressive macro work.

Hello Andy,
Well, as an entomologist I have alway a great pleasure when I am looking for documentary pictures. And this one is one of them. It is interesting because of at least few things:

1. it clearly shows a part of insect life - a very interesting and not so common in the animal world example of cooperation between two species.

2. it present a very small insects (so bravo for very good macro)

3. it has a very good quality and details. I like natural -but clearly showing "all things" - POV, good DOF, nice colouration (not very colourful photo but... who cares! ;>) and contrast, and delicate BG.
Summarizing: very good work! :)
Have a nice day and hope to see such pictures in the future!

Hi Andy

Awesome macro work my friend. I just wonder why it needed the red-eye reduction mode for the flash. Were those aphids all big eyed because of your Canon (chuckle)?

Great details showing excellent particulars of the symbiotic life of these insects. Great DOF at f/13 aperture which covered the range of the insects and the plant yet rendered the BG totally OOF and complimentary. Splendid colours and remarkable exposure control making excellent use of the fill-in flash and the diffused light.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
