Hi Niek,
well what can i say? Firstly I am very honoured that you should choose to dedicate such a fine shot to me, and secondly i am very pleased to be able to actually see what i climbed!
You've caught the essence of the Cairngorms here exceptionally well, which is that of vast open space and a high, featureless terrain.
The path in the bottom left hand corner is the route we returned back to the car from, and actually starts way up from on top of the summit of the peak that is shrouded in cloud. The colours are an exact reproduction of the landscape in this area, and you've managed to create a great sense of depth with that huge sky, your trademark.
If we had had weather half this good it would've made for a completely different day, but this is a lovely reminder of a great time.
Thanks for sharing this Niek, and of course, straight into my favourites!
Paul

Hi Niek,
What can I say? You've captured this wide-open featureless terrain with clouds touching down very nicely..I've never been to this area, most likely never will..Thank you for bringing it to me in such grand fashion :)

Now there it is.... that low horizon and vast sky, and that soft light and unusual color that I was talking about. There is something so different about it... un-American in some way. I like it. It is you.
I'm glad you pointed out the two hikers. I hadn't realized the scale. It is a nice shot and has a wonderful feel to it. I'm so glad that you had some good weather. Was this land treed at some time or has it a lot of peat or something that prevents forests. It seems so barren.

Très belle présentation pas facile de mettre en valeurs un n'endroit aussi dénudé.
Merci!

Hi Niek.
Thanks for your reply re. my recent problem. I sorted it out o.k. I apreciate it. So I'm back in business. I have lots to catch up on. You've been posting more beautiful images from your Scottish adventure. I like the light here. The way the clouds reflect the light back to the fields below. And you included a good amount of the beautiful sky. Well done.
Best regards, Steve.

Hi Niek
That is very cruel teasing Paul about the glorious weather you had :) It is a lovely shot with lovely light and textures in the land and a magnificent sky. I love the way the clouds are rolling across the land

Wow. I like the way you've used the rule of 1/3s here, buddy -- 1/3 ground and 2/3 sky. I think it's a great shot. It really does convey the scale here. The only idea I have on this is the bottom part seems to be a rich, ominuous kind of green while the top is a light, soft and fluffy thing. I wonder if a grad filter, or one of your high density shots might make the two parts tie together better. (I'm not sure they need to, though).

Hello Niek,
An interesting landscape, where I notice the absence of taller vegetation!
The lovely green shows there is no lack of water, hehehe...
Good lines in the landscape, the low clouds make an interesting addition!
Greetings,

Hi Niek!
It's not just a beautiful landscape. It's also not only a dramatic sky. And even if we accept that they are both tied together, it still doesn't explain why it's so beatiful.
Maybe it's because we can feel the photographer's emotions, maybe it's because it's the expression of the nature's simplicity and inherent beauty. Maybe it remembers us how ephemeral things on our world are.
Probably it's all of this at the same time, underlined by a perfect exposure and composition.
A mountain and a cloud... what do we need more to be happy?
I like that kind of pictures very much.
Thank you, Niek, for sharing it!
Kind regards
Markus

hello Niek,
I missed this beautiful picture. Like you I'm a sky freak and this one is magnificent. I also like quite nude landscapes, like this one. Very harmonious and well balanced composition, which is also very animated by the presence of the light clouds.
Best regards
Anne
