I have had a few days off work and so I took off to Dorset. I have some landscape shots which I will post in a few days but today I thought I would post a shot taken at Monkey World, a rescue centre for monkeys.

------------------------------------------------------
Set amongst the woodland of Dorset lays 65 acres of sanctuary for over 150 primates. Monkey World was set up in 1987 by Jim and Alison Cronin to provide abused Spanish beach chimps with a permanent, stable home. Today Monkey World works in conjunction with foreign governments from all over the world to stop the illegal smuggling of apes out of Africa and Asia. At the park visitors can see more than 150 primates of 15 different species.
-----------------------------------------------------
Some of the orangutans and their stories:

Ro-Ro
RoRo is a female orang-utan (Pongo pygmaeus) who arrived at Monkey World on 19/07/2000. We estimate she was born during 1988. RoRo was smuggled from the wild and kept as a pet, in a cage, in the kitchen of someone’s house in Taiwan. She was rescued by the Taiwanese Authorities and sent to us to become part of our breeding programme for orang-utans. In Chinese “RoRo” means “tender”. In 2003 RoRo gave birth to Hsiao-ning, and Dinda in 2006 at Monkey World as part of the EEP (European Breeding Programme).

Lucky
Lucky is a female orangutan that was smuggled from the wilds of Borneo for the illegal pet trade in Taiwan. She was confiscated by the Taiwanese Authorities from an amusement arcade in Kaoshiung county. Lucky arrived at the park on 21/07/01 and we estimate that she was born during 1995. She is a quiet female that loves RoRo’s company.

Hsiao-lan
Hsiao-lan is a female orangutan that arrived at the park on 24/01/02 and we estimate that she was born during 1994. Hsiao-lan was rescued by the Taiwanese Authorities after being found at an amusement arcade in Kaoshiung. She is one of the shyest orangutans we have and her name means “little cloud” in Chinese.

Hi Karan

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the ... oh sorry, but for a moment I thought I saw a beautiful (if not somewhat improved) split image of myself, however I think I've got more facial hair though.

This is a superb portrait and the close cropping gives this composition a definitive thumbs-up. I just love every aspect of this shot. The clear and well defined details, the colour saturation, the perfect exposure levels, and the priceless expression. Of course those lively and thoughtful eyes go a long way to give this shot amazing visual impact.

Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Karan!

There is something impressive in this face. Maybe eyes? It looks wiser than many human faces. Fantastic portrait. Perfect moment and I like tight composition very much!

Hi Karan,
A great portrait of this orangutan and a clever, serios face and an excellent exposure, details and texture. A very good idea to capture it looking at some "lost" point instead of to the objective.
Hard history about what Spaniards among others did to monkeys.
TFS and best regards,
José M.

Hi amazing shot

and good colours

Hi Karan
Great portrait of this orangutan, very nice and great quality.
Regards.

Hi Hester,
This is a very nice expressive portrait shot of this beautiful orangutan. It is such a shame to know that they are struggling for their own existance in the wild, It saddens me deeply. Thank you for sharing this wonderful image. :)

Hello Karan,
A fine portrait, with some sadness in the expression...
A well framed capture, great details and fine natural colours!
