Thanks to Ulla the ID of the flower is now know to me....Thank you my dear Ulla!

I found this flower along the Lour Burn on a part where there was less water. It was standing on the edge of the river bank with it feet in very wet sand. It is about 30 to 50 cm high. Flies were atracked to the flower.

Shot using a my tripod and cable release. Only adjustments were done on levels and USM

Flower information:
Name: Creek (Common) Monkeyflower - (Mimulus guttatus)

Family: Figwort (Scophulariaceae)

Flowering Season: March thru June

Notes: A native perennial, its common name comes from the arrangement of its flower petals, which are supposed to resemble a monkey (with some imagination). It can grow to 40 inches.

Hello Niek,
A real beauty!
Green and yellow is a wonderful colour combination, and the small spots of red add excitement, pleasant composition and pin sharp flower head...
Not that I know anything at all, but the flower has some features of orchids!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello
This is a Mimulus or Monkey flower. They're very pretty and quite popular in the gardens here. Beautiful sharp capture in fine colours. It stands out very nicely from the background.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Beautiful image Niek, The soft light and colors are very nice.
Great detail and DOF, with the OOF green BG working well. I like the composition/POV also..
Well done!

We both stared and stared at it .... saw no monkey.

Great job with the details here, man. I find the depth of these flowers makes it hard to get just the right DOF, but you've done it perfectly. Good job on the exposure too -- it seems to have just the right range. I like the tight crop, and I like the way you've left room for the stem on the right and the leaves on the bottom, but I wish there were just a BIT more room on the left. I realize I'm probably in the minority again, but that's just me! :-0

Hi Niek

Another yellow flower, eh? :)))
But what a beautiful one it is...
It's nice to see species you hardly ever hear or see about here on TN...broadens one's horizon...

I don't know if i told you this before, but i'm not usually to crazy about flower photos, yet there are some photographers here that made me change my mind a few times...of course, including you.
What i love the most about this picture is the absolute PERFECT (another word i used rarely) DOF. The flower itself is all in a splendid and impeccable focus while everithing outside it's petals is blurred...how beautiful!
My compliments, my friend!

Bravo and TFS
Horia
