Great and Little Egrets.

We recently had a visit on our local nature reserve of a Great Egret which joined the flock of 20 or so Little Egrets. The Great Egret is an African bird and is not even listed in my European Birds book so it came a long way. I believe there was also one at the Marshside, Southport reserve at the same time. I managed to get this picture of the two birds from a rather crowded hide and it shows the difference in the size of the birds and also the colouring differences of the beaks and legs. I have cropped and used levels to bring up some detail as the birds were back-lit in strong sunlight.
Camera settings details:- ISO 400,Auto White balance and exposure, 336mm focal length, Remote shutter cord. |
