[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is our largest jumping spider, don't fret though it only grows to maximum of 10 mm in body length, this spider belongs to the genus Marpissa and the species is likely to be M. muscosa. I think they are handsome spiders and the eyes are great, although they do have rather a scary feel. I have pictured one of these last year whilst it was eating a young nursery web spider. There are three or four British species and none of them are common and most are found in the south. This M. muscosa likes to hunt on trees covered with lichen, dead wood and fence posts.

Eggs sacs are placed in a silken cell, under bark and stones or on vegetation and these eggs are guarded by the mother, who'd argue with her?

I hope you like this, I love this spider.

Impressive capture of this carnivorous hunter Paul, fantastic detail on the head and thorax. I find these posts very interesting. I must obtain a good reference book on the insect world here in the UK, very well done.

How can all you guys write comments like: "my favourite", "handsome", "I love this spider", "fantastic"? Come on, this is a SPIDER! A tiny spider enlarged to look like a monster dinosaur!
Thanks Paul, yes it's very "razorsharp and crisp & clear," but I don't have to like it, do I?
Good shot though!:)

The monster from the movies you got here, never seen one this clear before brilliant. The POV is a great one, how close were you and how much is crop in PS ?

Ugh, spiders are about my only phobia, and this one makes me shudder...which must mean it's a good photo!

Surely this cute furry little critter doesn't really kill things.I expect it really eats fruit and cheese.
Seriously though...another superb macro showing great detail.Excellent work.

Paul, A great shot on this spider. Excellent detail, and I love those eyes. Nice Work!

Woow Paul, great macro shot. Didn't like spider that much, they are not eatable..:P This one looks pretty, with the beautiful eyes and the nice brown hair around her chin. I won't like to touch them, but don't mind just looking. Great details and sharpness, very nice bg too. Well done.

You were literally eye to eyes with him. the details are great, and he has a lovely UFO shaped head :)

well done
Elize

Well done on the details Paul, they're really excellent! Razorsharp and crisp & clear. :) I like the composition, with the spider coming in a diagonal line from the right corner. It gives the photo depth and action imo. Very nicely done. I really like your picture. TFS!
