[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was taken today in between the rain storms on my new Canon 40D. I am pleased with this as i still have a lot to learn about the camera.
This was taken hand held from inside the house with the window open.
The Robin is one of my favourite Birds so he gets pride of place with the new camera.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

A marvellous close-up, Nicholas!! How beautiful this Robin and what a fantastic shot!
I am really curious about your new camera. Do you have to focus through the visor or you may do it through the screen?
Maite

Hi Nick

I'm really sorry for missing out on so many lovely shots from you, my friend, but very busy days have kept me away from TN pretty much all week and it looks like things aren't going to change for the next week either :((
Still, i couldn't help noticing your new toy and i had to wish you all the best and only great weather whenever you are holding it :)
This is a great first shot with it and i'm amazed of the close-up you managed to get with a 300mm lens.
The details are remarkable and the colors are vivid, showing that typical orange robin breast beautifully. Also the angled POV is great for these kinds of shots, while the exposure keeps a well balanced light across the entire subject. Good composition, too.
The best of luck for shooting with your new gear!

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Hi Nick,
CONGRATULATIONS to the proud owner of EOS 40D. I have not seen one yet. But I feel it is a very good camera at a reasonable price (especially the live view). Very nice capture too. Excellent details and composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Nick

I have been eyeing up this camera. Is it worth the upgrade? I'm on a EOS350D at the moment. Where did you get yours from? (if you don't mind me asking)

Anyway enough of that. This is a great shot. I love the pin sharp details, the great POV and the cheeky pose
