I suppose it is like looking through the restaurant window... food so near and yet so far! This is rally a great shot. Water on ice certainly makes for a mirror like surface. It's really lovely.

It is a quite comical shot - and at the same time, artistically perfect. I love the reflection off the water/ice. It is almost as perfectly detailed as the focus on the bird. Well done, Karan!

Certainly it should be a very different situation.
It's so unusual the twisted pose caught on the heron, and the beauty of the reflections on the ice.

This is a beautiful image. Like you, I really enjoy Herons and have spent a lot of time with them. Gorgeious shot, the ice gives a surprisingly diffent perspective than a simple clam water reflection. Well done. TFS

Hello Karan

Great capture!
These herons are very similar to our Great Blue herons over here.They actually stay near the open water of streams ans rivers until quite late here,I have seen them in early January here.
You have managed to get a wonderful POV for this shot.
The scene is wonderful,as the bird intently watches for lunch to pass by.
I think the ice and reflection adds a neat element to the shot.
Just look at the feathers,the way they fan out.Greta job.

Sure you did good to post this...it would have been a huge shame not to! ;)
It's really a terrific capture! I like not only the splendid pose of the heron and his reflection, but also the outstanding look on its face - almost grumpy to see he's slipping all the time and very frustrated to see another handsome heron very close to him all the time :))
Aside the funny element, there is also a very well taken shot, with sharp details and a very good exposure management.

My magpies have a thing or two to learn from this fellow, they are not very gracious on slippery surfaces...
I only hope he can get to the food somewhere else, it is easy to see this is not to his liking...
