Hi Nick,
I'm glad you have caught the in-flight bug because I love seeing them. Another good one - love the position you have frozen him in. The lowered feet and the wings thrown back are wonderful.

Hello Nick
This is a fantastic shot of what I and you regard as one of the hardest challenges to photograph..The small passerine in flight...Its intoxicating and infectious!!
Absolutely stunning detail everywhere apart from the wings...Which do show a great movement but possibly you were trying to freeze them?...And at 1/2500 it just shows how quick these lovely chaffinches are.
This is stunning shot Nick and I am so so impressed.
My best to you

It's not just a bug...it's a outbreak....and since Howard has been on vacation...it fills the gap nicely....This one is so well defined...it looks almost naturally outlined! Well done once more!

Hi Nicholas,
Outstanding in-flight shot and you have freezed a fantastic moment. Superb lighting with lovely colours and details. I wonder how fast the wings move as you still have motion-blur at that shutter speed. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

You are right, it is descending close to the trunk with its legs outstretching! I love those inflight pictures giving us so much insight of the movement of the birds. You and Paul have two different styles yet they are complement one another. I like this shot in full sun, with so much nice and warm light and a green background: summer is very close to you! Thanks!

Hello Nick,
I think Marhowie must have inspired you to go in for in-flight captures! And they are fabulous, as this one is too. This is very well-timed and you've got excellent focus on the head and I like its pose in the air. A fine background too and well composed.
Many thanks, Ulla

Woooooooooooooooooow!!!!!!!
How do you do it?!
This is amazing!
Just like an Eagle about to pounce on a fish, only way smaller and pouncing on seeds instead!
Fabulous pose and incredible timing to capture it!
Very nice colours a perfect lighting.
Razor-sharp.
Makes me want to try out my Sigma 180 even more :-D
Also it says Sigma EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM... shouldn't it be Sigma 180mm f3.5 APO EX DG HSM? :-)
Cheers Nick,
Joe

Hello Nick,
You are doing a fabulous job of capturing birds in flight! This one is so sharp and detailed! Look how the head is coming forward and the legs dropping, ready for landing! It's a bit like an areoplane really!
Lovely composition!

Hi Nick
Another splendid one from you and another terrific and good pose captured!
I see both you and Paul are using macro lenses for you bird in-flights...is this a new trend? :))
I love the sharpness here especially on the head of the chaffinch.
The composition is again very good and the light made sure that the colors would all be lovely.
Very nicely done!
Bravo and TFS

Hi Nicholas.
I like pictured moment a lot. Timing is really great as well as DOF and sharpness of the image. I see the high shutter speed is not enough for freezing quick movements of the bird wings. Have you tried to use ISO 800 or 1600? It would be interesting the quality of the shots with such ISO. Bravo. Great job.
Alexei.

Hello Nick,
Another superb in-flight of a cock Chaffinch with an apt title that suits the position of the legs and wings. Technically this is first class but I wondered if one could have cropped it with more space infront of the bird to improve the composition, if the original allowed it of course.
Thanks for sharing this fine image,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

This is your best one yet. Absolutely stunning detail and nice shape of wing. I like the fact that there is some movement, but the picture's pin sharp where it needs to be. 12/10. Well done.

Hi Nicholas!
Thank you very much for your comment on my last posting. I'm impressed by the diversity of the posting on TN. Maybe I see details and find subjects where others wouldn't see anything, you on your side are able to capture wonderful pictures of flying birds. I like this one very much and would like to congratulate for the instant you recorded at the very right moment.
Kind regards
