| A more lateral, rather then top-down-view, of xylaria polymorpha - dead man's fingers. What is the collective name for a 'group' of fungi, other than perhaps the specific term 'fairy ring'? I cannot imagine it being apt to call a group of dead man's fingers a fairy ring, even if they were in a circle. A fist of fingers seems appropriate, but I am sure not correct - any suggestions? |

Are much better now we can see why its called dead man's fingers!!! A fist of fingers sounds good to me:) A fairy ring is a circle of fungi which can be of any species but usually an agaric but I have seen giant puffballs in rings. Well done TFS.
Hi Stephen,
This one look better and can you see when they called the fungi so.
I had it for myself another pov, more to right and the middlepoint the lonely one so 60 degrees turning.
Enough details and colours a natural.
Looks also to my fungi photo's.?
Then see you what i mean.
Regards Gert
