This is a young Fallow Stag, Leaping across the river. The Fallow herd was going a bit doolally on this day. There was a parade through the Park marking the V-day 60th anniversary - I wonder if that was the cause.

HISTORY AND DISTRIBUTION
Fallow have a fascinating history in Britain. Fossil evidence shows that they were present before the last Ice Age, were made extinct during it and were subsequently reintroduced. They are therefore not considered as truly native to this country. No one is certain as to when Fallow were reintroduced; some have stated that it was the Phoenicians, others the Romans who were responsible. Written records from the Saxon period do not specifically name the Fallow but Norman records do. It can therefore be assumed that the Norman nobility was responsible for their reintroduction from the end of the eleventh century. Fallow were classified as being ‘Beasts of the Forest’ and hence they belonged to the King. Royal permission was granted to noblemen to establish chases on their estates, however authority was still required from the monarch before hunting could take place. Many of the nobility therefore enclosed their own parks where they had control over all the game and could hunt when they wanted. Being both decorative and providing a much needed source of food, they were introduced into the estates of the Norman nobility for sport and to boost the owners social standing. Deer parks had their heyday in the early Tudor period. During the reign of Henry VIII it has been estimated that a twentieth of the realm was employed in the cultivation and harvesting of deer and rabbits. By the Elizabethan and Stuart period these were in decline and Fallow underwent a further decline in the eightenth century with the increase in popularity of shooting sports and the fashion for fox hunting. With escapees and releases through a reduction in the number of parks between the World Wars to maximise food production areas, the local feral populations have received a number of periodic surges. Many areas now have Fallow which have developed there own local characteristics. An excellent example of this phenomenon are the Long Haired Fallow of the Mortimer Forest in Shropshire.

I hope you like it the notes are from this excellent Deer Website

Nice bit of action in the spring sun shine Paul.
the High ISO has allowed you to capture the action well with-out any noise showing at this level.

Hello Paul, This is an excellent action capture. Great results using a sunny day, ISO 400 and 1/4000th to stop the action..Gee wiz, where have I seen this gem before? :-) Very well done!

Superbe action, le mouvement et les gouttelettes illuminé par la lumière donne un très bel effet.

Félicitations pour la netteté.

This is a classic Paul. Very good action shot of this old pal with the cristal waterdrops. Very clear details and a good composition.
Is this one of the kings fallows hunted by Robin Hood?
Very well done.

Beautiful. What a capture, do you have her jumping out as well?
Wow, Bushey Park! I grew up in Sunbury so we used to go there nearly every weekend. I remember a play area next to a very old wall. It was full of sand and we'd play in it for hours. What a great place.
A stunning shot Paul, looks like you were lying down again! The light across her is fantastic.
Thanks for posting.

Very well frozen action, Paul, including water droplets. The deer is razor sharp and although it wasn't the best hour in the day, the light is very good. I would just have cropped it closer to give more importance to the deer only.

hello:)what a nice shot:) great moment:) I like here everything:)

Nice action shot Paul. Your shutter speed captured the moment perfectly and gave very good sharpness. I love the spray being flung up by the deer's hooves. Great exposure, colour and composition too. Excellent :)

Oh wow, great action capture. Good light and colours, my only wish would have been for a small catchlight in the eye.

Lots of action here Paul. 1/4000 looks as very good choice for freezing this animal in the middle of jump. Perfect quality, especially I like light and colours.

De-javu! :) I love this. Great shot Paul. The exposure and light is so nice. Tack sharp. The action is superb. Very well done. This is a very special moment.

Hi Paul,

Great action shot with perfect colours and high sharpness. But I think that the grass in the lover right corner is a little disturbing.

Hi Paul, great to see some of your pictures again, I am over here in Sweden and hope to be getting many of those and mooses and even much more. Yet the reason I only come back to treknature really is to see some of your work which really does challenge me. Of course all other photos here are also very good and useful examples. Soon I hope to be posting some of my finds since being here now 2 weeks. Hope you have a great summer there in the UK (missing it already...NOT) if you ever come to Sweden give me a shout and I will be happy to go round with you learning some of your great techniques. Brilliant work, look forward to see much more. keep it up.

Exellenct capture of your young stag. I do like those Canons camera, being using my partners on the sneeky side when she notices I have escaped with it for the day she goes mad, saying use your own Nikon.... Oh well

take care and see you around.

Great capture of the stag leaping against the water. He is so young he still has spots! Perfect focus, lighting and POV.
