[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A female Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) which was sunbathing on this bramble leaf near to a pond.It remained there for quite some time and was taking great interest in the camera that was suddenly placed in front of its face!As I moved the camera, its head would rotate and follow it, so I tried to capture that movement in this shot.

Our commonest true dragonfly in the autumn, its flight period is from mid-July to early November.
It is a fairly small dragonfly. Females and immatures are yellowish-brown. The males and sometimes old females, develop a vermillion colouration which extends with age. Their legs are distinctively striped yellow.

They are often found sunbathing or perched horizontally on projecting vegetation or bare ground. They take rapid short flights but often return to the same position.

Photo cropped and sharpened USM 40%

It's really a nice one Andy,
You have a lot of sun I can see, that makes it not easy to make a good shot, but I think you did do it very well. The composition is nice and the colours of the face I love it, very good job.

Very good Andy.
Nice colours and good sharpness.
Up here in the north part of europe are the dargonflies and butterflies soon gone for the year.;-(.
Well done

L'angle de la prise de vue est intéressant, on dirait que la libellule nous regarde ;-)
Well done !

Andy, This "curious" head-nod gives your Darter a quizzical look that captures the viewer. You did well to cash in on this co-operative subject!

I think it was jealous of the size camera "eye". Beutifully captured and your note makes it extra-special

Here's looking at you... What a compo. Eye for the moment. Very sharp, very nice. Thanx for posting.

Good work Andy, very nice work with good detail and colour. I like the twisted head, I have one that really looks like it is smiling, I may yet post it. Well done.

This is a very god one Andy. Colours semm very natural and the dof is spot on. The tight cropping works good in this composition. Good note too.

Great result you got, Andy - I guess when for once those guys are being so cooperative as photo models, you better make something of it. And that's what you did here, the sharpness and colors are amazing. The diagonal positioning is nice, too.

Impresionante primer plano, con una perspectiva excelente y muy buen DOF, que aunque no toma la totalidad del insecto en foco, brinda un efecto espacial fantástico.
Bellos tonos e iluminación apenas alta, aunque perfectamente aceptable.

Impressive first plane, an excellent perspective and very good DOF, that although it does not take the totality from the insect in focus, offers fantastic a space effect.
Beautiful tones and illumination hardly high, although perfectly acceptable .

Very good DOF you acquired with just F-6.3. Good details, it looks as if she's really summing you up, she's got her head at an "inquisitive" angle ;-))

I don´t think is interested in the camara, I think Andy was offering some fly or something to eat :)
This has a unique pose, a very nice one !!

Really good shot here Andy, I am so amazed since joining TN the level and standard of some of the pictures going on. I am still trying to get used to my D100 and just love shooting Macro. So when I see pics like yours I just get totally motivated to do better. I also still have to work on editing my photos to a better presentation so again looking at yours and also PDP photos so far has encouraged me to do better. Thanks for sharing and most of all motivating me.... Demetrio

Astonishing DOF for an aperture of 6.3.

Wonderful colors and details. Especially with this slighly tilted head.

what an excellent photo. I have never seen a mouth so clearly. All my life I have been fascinated by dragonflies. I had a kiln, I put them on my ceramics all the time.

Andy, great shot of this beautiful dragonfly. Sharpness and colors are great. (The "smileys" are not here. Ten points.)
