He does look cold, but it probably was cold in March. He looks so cute with all of those blowing feathers. Lovely colors - wish we had more colorful birds - we mostly see grey, grey, and more grey.

Well there ya go...See I did a few close in shots today but there is no way I can make this kind of image happen...It isn't because of my ability I don't think. but rather a lack of money:-) I would have to gear up for Canon...and then those lens are more than Nikons are..arg..I will try and post one tomorrow and you please come back and tell me what I can do to make it look like this...I am a willing learner..

There's loads of detail in the feathers and the clarity is superb!
Brilliant DOF and BG.
Great lighting too.
Is the 100-400 focusing properly yet? I hope you've been able to get out with it... was a lovely day today and I went on a walk with a group of people, got a few shots of a Red Kite really close in. Will post one soon!

I think you has be right. When it is a cold day birds keeping there own temperature on normal level the blow up the feathers. Good pose with excellent detail and wonderful natural colour. The diagonal branche makes the composition very good. But I think "vanderschelden" has right, the highlights are a bit specular. Have a nice day and TFS BOB

He really is a fluffy looking fellow. These have been in my garden stealing the hay from my hedgehog house. Lovely sharp details. I can see every feather in his breast. Great pose, lovely DOF and perfect POV
