This is one of the Dunnocks that are always in the garden i think they are nesting in the hedge .I was surprised when i looked at the picture to see the size of the feet. They almost looked like the feet of a bird of prey. This was taken yesterday evening as the sun was going down.

Dunnock ( Prunella modularis ) Length 14 - 15 cm.
Common but unobtrusive resident breeding bird in Britain and Ireland, except on Shetland. Adult has a chestnut brown back , blue grey underparts, streaked flanks and needle bill. Feeds quietly on ground searching for insects and seeds. Most noticeable in early spring when male sings lively.Favours woods , hedgerows and gardens.

Hi Nicholas
Another beautiful bird in your gallery. Nice OOF background, pretty good sharpness and good compo with a bird on the right. Another important thing for me is a species of the bird I think that I have never seen the Dunnock ;-)
Best wishes
Krzysztof

A very sharp shot, Nick..And a verry informative and crisp note.
Cheers!

Hello Nic,
Interesting pose and POV of this Dunnock caught with fine sharpness with the OOF BG of your garden helping to make him stand out. Dunnocks are not common and shy in Sweden but I would love to be able to take a shot like this.
Thanks for sharing it and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Have good Weekend!

Hello Nick
You have done fantastically well to get this lovely Dunnock in such a good pose off the ground..I have a pair that are always in my garden but there are always in the borders.
I see what you mean about his feet...I think you have a rare cross between a Dunnock and a Sparrowhawk here!!....Perfect glowing light as well.
A good weekend to you Sir and I will mail you later about things.
Paul

Good morning, Nicholas

I'm sitting alone in my garden, it's early sunday morning, I'm back from a short walk. A blackbird is singing, my note book shows me your wonderful pictures. It's a good start in the day, isn't it?

Kind regards

Lovely photo of this Dunnock, Nick.
Very fine detail and excellent sharpness.
Well composed and a great POV.
Superb BG and a perfect DOF.
Nice light too.
I've tried many times to get birds to fly onto a branch before going down to the food but they never seem to want to... do you have any techniques or something? Also do you have any more info on the meeting-up with Horia?

Very well done!

Cheers,
Joe
