We are finally having a run of warm weather in the UK with unbroken sun most of the day..Whilst I am work it has to be said!! Still I finished work a bit earlier today and managed to get this Lovely Male Chaffinch which is the first small bird inflight I have managed without using a flash to create the light..I know I missed the bottom of his wing but I still thought it was worth sharing.

Fringilla coelebs
Length: 14.5 cm (6")
Wing Span: 24.5-28.5 cm (10-11½")
Weight: 18-29 g (¾-1 oz)

Iso 400
Shot in Raw and converted
A minor crop (not the wing!!)
slight sharpen

Thanks for looking and a fine weekend to everyone.

hello Paul
excellent timing, it is great capture for Fringilla coelebs, one of most popular bird species on TN. Splendid coloration, great focus and POV. Great work indeed. Thanks for sharing, best wishes

Hi Paul

I don't mind the missing wing tip when the image is as good as this. Wonderful sharp and frozen action, perfectly exposed and an amazing pose. Stunning work

Hello Paul,

These sort of shots are fascinating because you could never experience them in any other way. I used to wonder whether birds closed their eyes at all when they were flying; obviously not! I am surprised how high the head is! The bird would be more streamlined if it was more in line with the body. There is probably a very logical reason for it, but it is curious!
Very well captured!

Kind regards,
Bev :-) Many thanks for your warm comments on 'Honestly it's Honesty'

Hello Paul,
I suppose the missing wing tip would bother me if it were mine, but it's a small point in an otherwise excellent capture of a male Chaffinch caught with his landing gear down. Superb composition and POV against a fine neutral BG and great timing for the wing positions.
TFS this beauty,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Paul,
definitely worth sharing, it's an interesting and unusual pose you caught here mate, with some good detail, colour and a very good DOF. Pretty rubbish watching the weather outide when stuck indoors all day eh?? Still, weekend's looking good, enjoy it.

Hi Paul,

Why worry about missing a part of the wing when you have such a magnificent face? The lighting on the face is superb. You caught him in a wonderful position - I love the curves of the wings and the landing gear down. Gorgeous colors, good details, and another wonderful shot.

Jane

Hi Paul,
Beautiful action shot. A bit too tight cropping in the bottom. TFS.

Paul,

I see you are still shooting in-flights. I think once you start, you just can't drop the habit :) You've done wonderfully here, with great detail, background and colors.
Don't worry about the wing. These are not easy shots to execute and this one is totally worth sharing.

Best Regards,

Martin
