A male Reed Bunting at RSPB Elmley Marshes nature reserve.

Mr Reed Bunting was so tired or lazy that he was sitting on the pole. I tried to encourage him to get up to his feet but he totally ignored my possibly rude comments.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

The Reed Bunting, Emberiza schoeniclus, is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae, a group now separated by most modern authors from the finches, Fringillidae.
It breeds across Europe and much of temperate and northern Asia. Most birds migrate south in winter, but those in the milder south and west of the range are resident. It is common in reedbeds and also breeds in drier open areas such as moorland and cultivation.
The Reed Bunting is a medium sized bird, 13.5-15.5 cm long, with a small but sturdy seed-eater's bill. The male has a black head and throat, white neck collar and underparts, and a heavily streaked brown back. The female is much duller, with a streaked brown head, and is more streaked below.
The familiar, if somewhat monotonous, song of the cock is a repetitive zrip.
Its natural food consists of insects when feeding young, and otherwise seeds. The nest is in a bush or reed tussock. 4-7 eggs are laid, which show the hair-like markings characteristic of those of buntings.

Hi Pekka

I have not been around for a while but have been looking at the shots you've been posting and they are superb. This little chap especially, I have not seen a Bunting myself but they are pretty little things. Lovely pose and good work all round.

Hello Pekka! Beautiful bird shot, I like the composition, the pose of your subject and the overall technical qualities are very high! Thanks,

Mario

Hello Pekka,

He had probably been on his feet all day!
Singing for your supper is obviously a tiring occupation!

I have never seen a reed bunting in the wils, only in books. This is a fine capture showing clearly his colours and markings.
I do like the view of his beak. It just looks like a strong nut cracker ... which, in fact, it is!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Pekka,

Wow! From your notes I'm not sure if he is singing or yapping at you. The pose is priceless - how dare you disturb him! Wonderful colors and excellent details of his face, wings and plummage. I love the background too.

Hi Pekka. A fine close up of this cute looking bird. When a bird sits like this it often means they have a leg problem. you have captured fine detail and colours against a nice plain BG. well done TFS.
