Hi Nick...Don't know what it is but those legs seem long. Nice and sharp enveloped in the lush greenery. Looks early morning with the damp. Best, Brat.
Hello Nick,
Mariki is right: this is an Empis species.
I think this is called the Daggerfly (Empis tesselata), as it has a sharp proboscis that it uses to suck the life out of other insects. This is just visible in this fine macro.
It is also called a Dance Fly owing to the movements it makes with its long legs.
Very nice sharp and well-composed macro with the fly showing well against the wet green leaves.
TFS this unusual image (a first for TN?)

Hello Nick
This is a stunning picture..The details are superbly sharp...The exposure is totally spot on and could so easily have burnt out..But you managed it all perfectly.....I have posted one of these..(Its my third post...Dining in a foxglove...More of an arty pic than a sharp one!!)...I was told it was a Robberfly but I am not going to argue with the likes of Ivan and Marie!!..Not with my History of Ids!!
All the best Nick
Paul
Ps..Doing a wedding is very stressfull!!..But it went well!!

The perch with drops of H20 are almost competing for interest:-) Nice image Nick. Looks like you finally have some quality weather to work with...that alone is good news..now all you need is 24 more hours added to the day :-)

Gosh, Nick, nature can be so cruel!
Its colours do not suggest it's a dangerous fly ... still it isn't warning other flies, it's lying in wait for them!
Like you, I like the warm glow created by the sunlight. I aslo like the sharp exposure and fine details.
kind regards,
Bev :-)
P.S. We have had very little rain. The sun has been shining but the wind has been very blustery!

Hola Nicholas
Se aprecia perfectamente el detalle de esta mosca. La verdad es que las cabezas de estas moscas empididae (ahora lo sé), son muy características.
Saludos
Jacobo
