[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the most important plants in the sunlit zone is also the smallest. Phytoplankton are organisms that float on or near the surface of the water. Most are rounded and single-celled. All phytoplankton use photosynthesis for their energy. The most common phytoplankton are diatoms and dinoflagellates. Diatoms are single-celled algae.

This Microscopic shot was taken with my binocular microscope which allows the head to be removed and camera body rested on top.

Welcome to TN. You start at the bottom of the food chain. This is a unique photo you posted. Very much TN stuff. It looks fantastic, though I cannot possibly critique these microscopic shots. Great contribution to this site. You deserve more than two points.

Welcome to TN Stephen , A most original image a 1st for here, nice one.It shows some intresting structures seen here.
It would be good to know if you applied any lighting methods to bring out the details or other things as I supect non of us knows anything about how you got this image.

Excellent image, very original and welcome to TN. Good note too. Any ideas of size, there is some interaction with light in the structures - I reckon these are in the micron region?

Stephen, I must agree with some of the others-this is definitely original. I have considered going in the opposite direction & have looked into the set-up required to photograph the night sky with my digicam plus telescope. Thanks for this interesting post & welcome to TN.

Wow - very interesting start for you here on TN, Stephen, welcome. A shot that not only succeeds as a fine documentary of the colorful microscopic details, but also as an original graphical composition of a photo. Well done.

I had one of those super-macro machines for a month and I thought I had it now for TN. Then you appeared, now I don´t need it, keep them coming please, this is very interesting. It would be more if explained the magnification, parameters, etc. Thanks !

Very original and interesting first post Stephen. Great patternsand colours, well cropped. Welcome on TN Stephen - I will look forward to see more.

I'm very impressed with the way you were able to take this photo. This is very interesting to see. Very well done.

Your shot of the moon is the best I've ever seen.

Hello Stephen,
Very interesting image, not seen too often on TN. The image is maybe a bit dim, and details are not visible but I know it's not that simple to make a good shot through a microscope.
Interesting algae - do you have any idea what they are?
Best greetings,
Michal
