Hello Everyone,

Meet our nestling collared dove!

A pair of collared doves nested in our cherry tree this year. We watched them build the nest but then, when the leaves grew thicky we had no view of it.

A few weeks ago, I saw this nestling on the path. It was fluffing its feathers and then settling down in a small depression, very much like a mother hen on a nest of eggs. It then closed its eyes as if sleeping.

I was quite alarmed, having two hunting cats (which I hastily locked in the house). When it hadn't moved in 5 minutes, I decided to intervene. I walked up to it slowly, with the intention of lifting it into the tree.

It wasn't really asleep! When I got a few feet away from it, it fluttered clumsily into the tree itself! It looked down on me as if I was a miscreant, closed it eyes and continued with its sleep!

At this point, I rushed to get my camera and voila! Here is the result!!

Hello Bev,
This one really looks 'as snug as a bug'!! Great capture of this fluffy little Dove all alone on the branch! Excellent details and fine natural colours. Well composed too. - We have Collared Doves around the house every year but I've never seen the young ones.

Hi Beverley. Nice to have young birds in the garden. This is a good close up of the Dove. It looks all fluff at the moment. good detail and natural colours. all in a nice frame. Well done TFS.
