Hi Everyone,

this was taken a couple of nights ago, further East up on the beach just below where i live.
Once again it's from the same area called Hengisbury Head, a spot i have posted from many times in the past and fast becoming the place i seem to visit the most.
It is a headland made of Sandstone cliffs, topped with thick Heather and Gorse. On this, the southern sea facing side the cliffs are bare, save for hardy grasses and colonies of Ants.
But on the northern sheltered side there is mixed forest containing Lilly Pools, brackish ponds that suport the UK's rarest Amphibian the Natterjack Toad, Sand Lizards and 12 different types of Dragon and Damselflys. There is also a Heronry there and a fenced off section of woodland for endangered birds. To top it off, there's also a huge inland stretch of tidal fresh/salt water (Christchurch Harbour) which is an important area for migratory birds and all year round residents alike.
I've only been coming here regularly in serious search of Nature for a couple of years and the place never ceases to amaze me. It's why i seem to always be posting something or other from here!

This is also the first chance i had to play at long exposures with the 40D...once i'd figured out how to put it on full manual..:o)

PP: shot in RAW, curves, increased saturation by 6%, shadows lightened a tad, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking...

The rocks have it here Paul...there is a quality to this particular seascape...and it is all in the form and geometry of the rocks..They have a familiar look to them. Perhaps it is among my memories of the NorCal coast..Very nice!

This is perfect, Paul. Absolutely beautiful, with this colourful and moving sky over the soft and ghostly water... I love the shores you picture, the beautiful rocks in this amazing light and the angle of view you use... which is original, you just don't simply put something in the foreground for the sake of composition, you manage to "see" and use an original way with your wide angle. Fantastic scene with the water flowing between the rocks at the foreground. Thank you!

Hi Paul. It looks like you have got to grips with the 40d already. what a fantastic sky you have captured with the rich colours of the late sun. Turning the water into mant colours. well done TFS.
Nick..

Dear Paul,
I do agree with you for the title "Evening Respite" with excellent colors of the clouds in the background sky interacting with foamy sea, sandstone rocky cliffs. Cheers.

Hi Paul.
You have selected state of nature for shooting perfectly. Cloudy colourful sky is tremendous and coloured the sea amazingly. As usual I am impressed with use of long exposure time. Motion of the water is reflected very nicely. DOF is superb and details are great. My best regards and TFS.

Hi Paul!

You live near a wonderful place, I would be there every day, too! The atmosphere your picture presents is fascinating because it's double-edged: on one hand it's romantic, on the other hand it's somehow frighteneing, as if something terrible would happen. The composition and the lighting, as usually, are superb.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Paul,
Why do you put your camera on full manual when taking a long exposure?
Anyway, the result is magnificent. The colors in the sky are stunning and the zigzag of the breaking wave is a very strong leadline.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Paul
Imagine sitting on one of these rocks with a glass of wine after a long day? just admiring nature and relaxing? I can almost feel it when I look at this picture. Well done.
Betsie

Hi Paul
Lovely balance in this landscape. I love the moody sky and the sharpness of the front rock which leads you into the image. TFS and glad you have having fun with your new camera.
Cheers
Sue

Bro,
How did you manage to make the water sooo....... eerie?Mysterious is the word, the entire shot has mystery to it!
Great work, Paul!
