This was taken in the same area as the Meadow Brown i posted earlier this week. I think this is the Female If i have the wrong ID please let me know.

Meadow Brown ( Maniola jurtina )
The Meadow Brown is the most abundant butterfly species in many habitats. Hundreds can be seen at some sites, flying low over vegetation. Adults fly even in dull weather when most other Butterflies are inactive. Regional variations in the spotting pattern on the wings have led to it being studied by geneticists over many years. Larger forms occur in Ireland and the North of England It's range extends across Europe , Asia and Iran. It's habitat includes open grasslands including downland, heathland, coastal dunes and undercliffs, hay meadows, roadside verges, hedgerows and waste ground. It also occurs in urban habitats such as parks, larger gardens. It is one of our most widespread species but many colonies have been lost due to agricultural development.

Hello Nicholas,
It's season for this species. Although my place is about 2000 km from England I've met here also. Good light and sharpness.
Regards, Pawel

Hi Nick, splendid butterfly and wonderful flower, fantastic colors, fine details and excellent sharpness, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hi Nicholas,

I dont think this is the female, they are brown with less orange.

I think it is the Coenonympha pamphilus are Small heath.
Good picture and good pov and dof.

Gert

Hi Nick, fine composition, both insect and plant have good details, a nicely thought out composition. The use of light and the great background has resulted in a very pleasing image.

Hello Nick,
Lovely capture of this SMALL HEATH butterfly on the clover. The pattern on the underside of the hindwing is different from the Meadow Brown and it is quite a bit smaller! You show the details very sharply here and the colours are natural. Well composed too!
TFS and have a nice weekend! Ulla

TN seems to be flooded with butterfly images these days, Nick, and to my great delight, all of them present the diverse subjects with immense style and enthusiasm.
Your image of this very pretty butterfly is lovely to look at and the red flowers contribute a lot in making it a fantastic composition.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Nick.
Excellent use of fine macro lens. Pictured scene is amazing. I like wide DOF, perfect reproduction of a beautifulness of the fine flower and crisp sharpness of the butterfly image. Sunlight is great and colours are vibrant. Well illuminated BG is so nice as main subject. Well done and TFS.

Hello Nicholas,

Not at home, only marking.
Mariki

Hi Nicholas,
You handled the bright mid-day light very well with great exposure & colors. Nice details and DOF that shows the beautiful flower & meadow brown equally well..
TFS!
Howard

Sure is one of your sharper in the butterfly family but since you are used to shooting birds close in, I reckon it is what you expect of your quality in imaging...although I am totally unfamiliar with most butterfly's, I am somewhat intrigued by the flora perch it is on!

I miss a lot of your beautiful shots, and they amaze me, so beautiful. This one is a beauty, Nicholas, with the superb oof background, the creamy beautiful green and then the red spot of the flower. With the butterfly on it. I love the sharpness, the mellow colours yet so bright. Thank you!

Francine
