Five Spot Burnet Moth, Zygaena trifoli.
Family - Zygaenidae,

Brightly coloured daytime moths, taste rather nasty...they are protected by distasteful poisons.

Sluggish fliers, they spend a large proportion of their time resting on flowers. The flight is rapid wing beats, but not a lot of progress, in fact, as fliers go, a bit poor...

There are 10 British species, this species preferring moorland, grassland and favouring "Bird's Nest Trefoils" as a favourite food. This one was on a Large Scabious.

Hand held, manual focus.Shot in RAW. Macro Light ring used.

ISO 100, F-stop f/16, Shutter speed 1/320.

PP work, just cropping to size for upload and a sharpen of 50% on 1 pixel.

Hi Howard

Great macro - very good detail and POV. I do not know why - but I am not fond of these - I remember them being everywhere in Derbyshire.

Hi Howard,i like a lot your macro art showing insects, this is wonderfull,i never seen that and i think is terrible to take perfectly beacuse like others have a impressive reflections, your work is great,my best compliments,Luciano

It almost doesn't look like a moth but I was fooled many times in growing up. for an amateur as I in this field, it is just another butterfly-looking insect. I am really a rough edged sword in butterflies and moths...Very nice work Howard.!

Hi Howard,
Wonderful shot of this beautiful Brunet Moth with very impressive sharpness and colours. Great use of flash lighting and among those grasses it stands out perfectly. I can see pollens too strewn all over its head. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Kudos.

hola Howard
No se que pasa, pero siempre que fotografio esta polilla, aparecen reflejos y cambios en el color de las alas. Lo he intentado con flash y sin flash, solo me queda probar con un filtro polarizador.
Saludos
Jacobo
