Well today has been the wettest day this year it has not stopped raining all day. This is a close up of the Dragonfly i posted the other day eating a hover fly , it did not take it long and it was off flying round looking for another. I like the colour of its green eyes.

Golden Ringed Dragonfly ( Cordulegaster boltonii ) Length 78 - 80 MM.
A striking dragonfly easily recognised by its dark body marked with bright yellow rings on the abdomen. Favours clean fast flowing rivers and streams. Its squat nymphs lives buried in silt and sediment at the bottom. fast flying and active in sunny weather but on dull days often lethargic and can be wathched at close range. widespread in the west of England and Wales and Scotland and often seen in the uplands, Flies June - August.

Hi Nick,

Wonderful close of the Golden ringed Dragonfly.
I really like the way you have composed the shot and its a great pose with the Dragonfly eating its lunch.
Nice crisp details and a superb catchlight in the eye.
Beautiful vivid colours too.

Hil

Hello Nick
There is very little I can say here..Photographically perfect...Having seen you at work I know how meticulous you are in your approach to macro work and your recent posts show this perfectly.....and if I see one crit that says the hover flys wing isnt sharp as its shuddering its final flap at the jaws of this monster!!!!
Great Work and TFS

Close up is an understatement! Remember those movies (very old, to be sure) where spiders and bugs were bigger than people and snacked on them as they ran for cover? This photo reminds me of one of those movies. I say that with humor because even though they are obviously fake, not to mention, to my knowledge, nobody in their right mind would give such an isect a growth hormone (one would hope), I still watch them.

The colors are vivid, flashy, and caught my attention. I could still see how I might mistake this as a wasp from afar. The sharpness is amazing, and as always, your notes are helpful - many times, the notes I see help me realize that often what I think about an animal is wrong. It's wonderful to know the facts - and even better, I love the chance to visit any place I want and see various habitats and animals. Thank you for posting.

Hi Nicholas!

"Take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live free"

Hmmm, I think rather not :-) Monster looks scary but also interesting. POV, composition and yellow-black colours are excellent.

Hello Nick,

This is an incredibly sharp and detailed macro! I also like the green eyes but, I like the hairy body and the black segmented legs! They look to be made of licquorice!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Nicholas...Excellent picture of different dragonfly...Never seen before..Sharpness, detail and information perfect...Well done and thanks to share...Regards, Leyla

It was VERY wet yesterday!! It's not meant to improve much for the next few days either :-(
This is one superb photo, Nick!
The clarity is excellent!
Very well composed, superb POV, great DOF and lovely colours.

Well done,
Joe

Nick, this is a fantastic action shot -- a dragonfly gobbling up a Hoverfly.
The bulging eyes of the "monster" give the impression it is enjoying its meal, albeit a little too big for its mouth!
Well done and TFS.

Hi Nicholas,
I like the drama of these types of shots, and the "monster" is doing something. Great detail, color, and POV of the action.
The 8x10 frame works well here.
Howard

Hi Nick,

Hi Nick

I know i've missed a lot of your recent shots...i'm sorry. I really liked all of them, but as a dragonfly-passionate, i'm really fascinated by the series about this Golden Ringed :)
I finally saw and photographed one a few weeks ago, but i've never got so close as you did here...amazing job!
I really like all these details and the sharpness of every texture. The colors are simply lovely and they contrast week with the beautiful green BG.
Excellent work and good luck for more :)

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Impresionante ángulo, enfoque y profundidad que crean una visión "terrible" y realista de esta bella libélula.
Buen trabajo Nicholas: J. Ignasi.
