| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia)growing in Hothfield Common, one of the few acidic bog sites in Kent.
Sundews use the sticky, gland tipped hairs on the leaves to trap and digest small invertebrates. This gives them a much needed source of nitrates in the nutrient poor bogs in which they grow.
Three species of sundew grow in Britain, with the round-leaved being the most widely distributed. Sadly all three are declining due to habitat loss. |

Hi Steve , a very interesting plant , and interesting notes , sad the habitat loss causes the decline of such interesting and beautiful things . a nice photo with good detail and color , perhaps a bit shallow in field (for me) , but can read your exposure / exif numbers and see that stopping down was not really a great option :-)
thanks for sharing
regards

Hi Steve,
I've never seen this plant before! It's very interesting!
Nice pastel colours, very sharp and detailed, good note.
Well done

The shallow DOF created more beauty in this shot, TFS.
Hi Steve,
wow - I love this shot - it's like artwork.
The colours so soft, this flower so interesting, I have never seen this plant in nature, I even don't know if we have it in nature here in Germany ... I have to look ...
Thanks, very good shot, bye and greetings

Hi Steve,
I didn't know England had Sundews, even though I went to school there (Eltham College/Kent) and was a keen amateur naturalist.
A good shot of this tiny Sundew.
As Ivan said, a higher F/stop would give a bit more depth. Did you use a mini tripod ?
If not, its well worth getting one.
I shot a few Alpine Sundews the other day, so I'll post one of those soon.
Cheers
Steve
