[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have been away from TN for a few days and I know i miss it so why stay away any longer. I hope all gets back to normal ASAP.

This was taken a few weeks ago down by the river. It is much the same as i posted before but this one shows the large spot on the wing.

Meadow Brown ( Maniola jurtina )
The Meadow Brown is the most abundant butterfly species in many habitats. Hundreds can be seen at some sites, flying low over vegetation. Adults fly even in dull weather when most other Butterflies are inactive. Regional variations in the spotting pattern on the wings have led to it being studied by geneticists over many years. Larger forms occur in Ireland and the North of England It's range extends across Europe , Asia and Iran. It's habitat includes open grasslands including downland, heathland, coastal dunes and undercliffs, hay meadows, roadside verges, hedgerows and waste ground. It also occurs in urban habitats such as parks, larger gardens. It is one of our most widespread species but many colonies have been lost due to agricultural development.

Hello Nick,

Not only neighbours but colour co-ordinated as well!

This is a lovely capture of the Meadow Brown showing exact colours and details. It looks to be feeding on a thistle head!

I like the way you have abstracted it from the b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Yes....What wonderful sharpness in eh focal point and un-clearly out of focus background. Classic example of "how it is done" sir Nicholas...Information on the Brown is succinct and doesn't over-do the work with words, yet leaves the image to speak on it's own. Well centered as a eye grabber right off and I was very relived to see you post it Nick. thanks so much for getting the ball back into the game. You are a hero sir!

Hello Nick,
Great to have you back and with a fitting post as the Meadow Browns never give up - they fly in rain and sunshine and together with the Ringlets create that lovely summery feeling! I like your composition with great focus on butterfly and Thistle against a soft and warm background. Well done!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Nick
We have both butterflies on the brain, I guess (^o^) - much better than butterflies in our tummies!

The colours and details here are truly grand and the bokeh makes the crispness of the capture even stronger

Hello Nick,
Fine closed-wing macro of a Meadow Brown on a thistle flower. Technically almost perfect if not a tad OE, but that's being very fussy. great BG and composition too.
TFS this beauty and have nice weekend,
Ivan

Hi Nicholas,

Your photo has a wonderfull light bringing the joy of summer sun. I like the way you used the light rendering very well the warm color tones. Composition is also nice as the "eye" on butterfly's wing concentrate viewer attention.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian
