Hello Everyone,

I hope you have had a lovely day and are ready for the weekend.

Today, I am posting a photograph of the very vividly coloured Welsh Poppy. This pretty poppy grows wild in hedgerows, open spaces and I have even seen it growing in the cracks between paving stones.

I managed to catch a hoverfly as well, though this was not my intention.

Here is some further information from Wikipedia:
The Welsh poppy (Meconopsis cambrica) is a perennial plant of the family Papaveraceae. Its habitat is damp shady places on rocky ground, and it is native to south-western England, Wales, Ireland and Western Europe. In its most western locations, it is increasingly found on more open ground with less cover.

It has pinnately divided leaves. The flower is distinctively yellow or orange with four petals, and hairy green sepals that fall off quickly after the flower opens. It spreads easily from the numerous small black seeds produced in the summer. It is especially well adapted to colonising gaps and crevices in rocks and stones. This habit has enabled it to colonise the urban emvironment, growing between paving slabs and at the edges of walls.

It was originally classified as Papaver cambricum and may be referred to as such in older texts. It is the only member of the Meconopsis (Papaveraceae with yellow latex) genus native to Europe.

Many thanks for stoping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph.
Bev :-)

Looks a bit out of time and space...or a time shift...as per the frame being more of an October'ish colour, yet having said that, it does not detract too much from the actual image itself...or maybe it is just me...I feel almost a bit drawn outward by the frame instead of inwards. Does that make any sense? I know you like to frame images and you are indeed real good at it....so I leave that up to you...

Hello Bev,
I've never seen this Welsh Poppy although I know there is an English one, yellow and very pretty. This one has a lovely bright colour and you've captured it so well here. A brilliant diagonal composition showing very fine details of flowers, seedheads and a little Hoverfly! Perfect!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hi Bev,

These Welsh Poppies are just beautiful! The colors are magnificent and the details are sharp and clear. The fly is a wonderful bonus but for me the flowers steal the show.

Hello bev,
Superb colours and composition in this portrait of a Welsh Poppy. I like the POV and the way the stems all slope in the same direction. The flowers are tack sharp and the little hoverfly is a bonus.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Beverley,
A nice capture of these beautiful poppy flowers and the tiny hoverfly inbetween. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Beverley
