Having had a few days off from work and it is now four weeks since i last reported on the Chaffinches and their feet and legs. I have chosen this young male to show you that when they are born and for the first summer they have no sign of the disease. It seems to appear in the first winter. I have looked in another area only 2-3 miles in a straight line across the forest and the Chaffinches have no sign at all of the problem.
I will keep you updated next month.

Chaffinch ( Fringilla coelebs ) One of the commonest and most widespread birds in Britain, favouring a wide variety of habitats including gardens, parks and woodland. In winter numbers are boosted by the influx of north european birds. Song comprises a descending trill with a characteristic final flurish. Feeds mainly on Insects during the summer months but seeds in the winter where they often gather in large flocks

Mario

Wow ! very very sharp and excellent background quality , congrat.to you Nicholas .

Hi Nicholas,

another great picture from you, that shows a bird.
The blurred green background is perfect. The Chaffinch is captured sharp and detailed.Colors are very beautiful and natural.
I've not often tried to take pictures of birds, but when I did, the results have been very bad ;) Most of the time, I didn't even get close enough.

Hi Nick, great details and wonderful colouration, sharp, clean and well focused. I'm not a huge fan of small garden birds, but yours are an exception, always a pleasure to look at... regards h

Hello Nick,
Once again an excellent portrait of a male Chaffinch with fine technical qualities.
No sign of the foot desease but the eye looks as if it has been affected, or it might be due to moulting as this looks like a young male that is gaining his adult plumage.
Interestin image and thanks for sharing it!
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Nick!

This is great news! I remember your previous picture with infected bird and I hope disease gone for good. Quality of picture is perfect. It looks like slide. Vivid colours, superb sharpness. You're master of small birds photography!

Young man is fine :-) After my two weeks long maternity leave I'll return to work and Michal will go to nursery. He's very lively and merry boy.

hello Nicholas,
The Chaffinches have so fine and subtle plumage, which you show perfectely in your picture.I also like the brilliance in the bird's eye. Looking at your picture there is something strange with the background, it is like the bird would have been posed on it, but the colour fits perfectely.
Have a nice weekend
Anne

Bonjour Nicholas
Très belle prise, excellente netteté et couleurs, très bon cadrage et beau sujet.
Amicalement Robi

There is a certain almost dimensional or geometric appearance to this ones head Nick. Not sure how that comes off but perhaps it is just because of eh optics and seeing the particular pose with blending of colours which give it depth. fine green mosses..a good overall natural image.

I haven't been posting on a regular basis lately and I have gotten behind on comments/critiques. This is my favorite of you last dozen or so. I love the deep rich colors and the way they contrast with each other. I also really like the composition and the DOF and green background. Nice sharp detail on this beautiful bird.
