Hello all, another lunchtime shot. It's great to get out at lunchtime and go for a walk with my camera. Especially when I run into one of my favourite subjects.

Salticus scenicus, commonly called a Zebra spider belongs to the family of jumping spiders (Salticidae). This one is about 5 mm in length and has got herself a substantial lunch. I watched this one for 15 mins or so and even with prey they don't sit still for long, always turning and looking.

This spider's habitat is princpally houses and gardens, fences, rocks and occasionally on trees.

This spider is modelling the latest in Jumping spider substrates; a galvanised steel gate.

I used my flash diffuser here.

I hope you like it.

Hello Paul.
Great capture. At the right moment, for you, not for the fly !
Do you work with autofocus or in manual to be sur you are 1:1.
With my 105, the focus is very slow, I'm faster without autofocus.
TFS

You convince me !!!
I was looking to buy the Sigma 50 2.8/EX and your photos realy decide me !
thanks to share this great instant

Yes, these little and fast spiders are the best! I also like to observe them especially during hunting. Great capture Paul! Moment is superb same as sharpness and details. Poor fly, but Spider looks very happy ;-)

Great macro shot, what a lunch!! I think this one is being a tad greedy.
Amazing detail, great dof and sharpness.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Paul. This is a great shot. It's obviously not easy to get such great close-ups of spiders but you pull it off brilliantly. Really great sharpness, detail and DOF. TFS :)

Hello Paul,

Brilliant macroshot! The details sharp, the shot is so close and especially the eyes of the spider are great. You have captured a fantastic moment. Is he actually already eating the fly? Wonderful shot, it truly is. Great DOF and POV. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Paul!
As I see preparing a theme about jumping spiders was a good idea - now I can see a lot of these beautiful creatures in one place (many of them - like your picture, thanks to Horia who added them to this theme ) :)
Lovely presentation of this common and popular also in Poland spider species. But this one had a big luck - to catch so big prey :)
Details and sharpness are very good, I like also low POV, and very good control of light.
TFS and I am waiting for next jumping creature from you!
Best withes from Poland,
Radomir
