Hi Julian, nice shot of an early Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) this one is an immature (probably male) so he hasn't been around long. Good shot with nice details, maybe a little more DOF would have been nice, but well done for getting so close. This is the first I have seen of this species this year.

PS. Welcome to TN

Very impressive macro.
Good DoF, good focus, good contrast...
Could you tell us about the EXIF data ?

Excellent shot, Julian
Well done on this first post and welcome to Trek N.

Mike

Great capture Julian,
Excellent macro detail, colours, sharpness and composition.
Good BG and great POV.
Thanks for posting, well donne.

Nice shot! You've captured this Southern Hawker well. Focus is spot on and the image is sharp, there are only two minor issues as far as I'm concerned - firstly I think you've used NeatImage (or similar) and that's removed a lot of detail from the eyes particularly, and secondly I think I'd have preferred a little more DOF to get the wings all in focus - if they're prepared to stay still long enough for you to use a tripod I'd probably turn the ISO down and narrow the aperture as much as possible. Anyway a very good first image :-D

Welcome to TrekNature!

Very good macro, Julian
Nice POV, good details and nice colours.
I'm agree with Adrian about the eyes, maybe little to much noise reducing, but it's still a very good picture.
Very well done.

Welcome to TN.

Hi Julian,
Excellent macro shot, fantastic detail and great colours. I think shots like this are quite hard to frame but this is good, it works very well. I agree with the other guys, a little more DOF would bring the wings into focus, but still a great shot.
Cheers,
Adrian
