[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hypholoma fasciculare also known as the sulphur tuft due to its colour.
Resides in dense clusters such as this one on stumps of deciduous and coniferous trees - this one was taken on local forestry land during a recent fungus foray with the natural history group to which I belong. It is definitely not edible with a bitter taste and wait for it (yes it's in the guidebook) a mushroomy smell! It's gills are sulphur-yellow but it produces oval purplish spores. The caps are 2-4cm in diameter and stems are anything from 4-15cm long.It is common in the UK with a season lasting from January to December. More importantly, for me, it's the only fungus that I remember the latin name of!

Very nice fungi shot Jax, in a totally natural situation. would be nice to have your secret recipe for getting so good an image I get too many hightlights and burn -outs in my shots.

I enjoy photos like these because you can almost feel the texture of the mushrooms in your hand by the way the picture is lit. They almost look like baked dinner rolls. Good DOF to have the fern also in focus. Interesting!
