Hello,

Up until a few days ago, the weather here in the UK had been rain, rain, rain for weeks on end. Probably not too suprising really given our temperate climate, but it has been excessive even by our standards. Consequently, many rivers have burst their banks where possible and flooded the surrounded land.
Here, the Avon has covered acres of farmland (what was once naturally floodplains), creating large areas of submerged grassland that cannot drain away as the earth is still so water logged.
Now, the weather has changed again. Sub zero temperatures have frozen the standing water into huge natural ice rinks. I was driving home late on Saturday afternoon when i saw all this water, so found a place to park and wandered across the fields to take a few shots...

The next few days are looking pretty busy for me, so i'd like to wish those of your who celebrate a very Merry Chistmas a bit early!

Thanks for Looking...

hello Paul

Merry Chistmas also for you, a very beautiful landscape photo
with fine POV, DOF and the choice of vertical framing,
beautiful reflections on the water, TFS

Asbed

A perfect winter naturescape with startlingly bright and contrasty colours and fine reflections Paul, the awesome DOF starting right from your foot tip and extending towards the far clouds produced a very sharp and lively composition, thanks also to your rock steady tripod. TFS this splendid image my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Paul,
No snow in your neck of the woods? You're probably the on one this high north that could not benefit from the many snow Europe got these last couple of day. If I may suggest, get in your car and go north of east.
But, you did get something else that was beautiful to see. The ice along the bank of the pool gave the view a whole extra dimension. Your wide angle vertical composition used it to its best and it draws the eye most perfectly to the sunlit trees in the BG. The sky is a stunner as well, with some wonderful soft colors and beautiful clouds. Which reflected beautifully in the perfectly flat water surface.
It looks like this L lens deals a lot better with distortion than the good old sigma 10-20. There is some, but a lot less.
TFS,
Niek

P.S. Eagle eyes spotted a few dust spots.

Hello Paul,
What a wonderful photo! The colours are amazing. The DOF is fantastic. The ice on the bank leads me to the warm coloured trees in the BG. Great distribution of land and air. The clouds also got a splendid DOF. Very beautiful reflections in the water. This all from a perfect POV.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Paul. The last few days have been rarther different as far as the weatehr goes. You were able to capture the feeling of the cold weather well with this picture of the flood water. I like the way you have the trees in the distance with the warm sun on them. Well seen and taken .TFS.

Have a happy christmass and new year all the best Nick.

Hi mate

Hopefully these land will once more be natural floodplains someday again... :)
Until then, this is a lovely shot from you and an interesting view of the English winter. Here everything is white and it's nice to actually see some color...at least in picture :)
Very well composed shot here, with the think ice giving a nice texture to the FG while that superb reflection dominates the BG.
Spot-on exposure and lovely colors and feel throughout.
Well done and hope to see some more after your busy days are over. Until then, i'll be checking out your site regularly ;)

Bravo and Merry Christmas for you and your loved ones!

Hello Paul!
Very nice winter (but not "totaly winter") picture. I can see the ice and also a green grasss - nice natural composition showing very narrow edge between cold and warm periods of year. As always, very nice composition and perspective, this time with line of trees in the BG.
Very ncie capture!
Merry Christmas!!! :>
Friendly yours,
Radomir

Paul,

Well worth the wander - lovely shot, made by the warm low afternoon sun warm glow on the distant trees - and as ever with your work, perfectly composed and exposed - the detail you have captured on that 5D is impeccable. Would love to see the original file just to nosey at the detail!

Lovely stuff. TFS mate and happy xmas to you.

Hello Paul,
A Fine capture of a flooded winter landscape. The colours of the sky, land and lighting are superb and you managed just the right setting to get perspective without distortion. The composition with the iced water edge leading to the trees in the BG is great and the colours of the trees give some warmth to what is otherwise a chilly scene.
I wish you a Merry Christmas too with and a successful 2010!
All the best,
Ivan

Hello Paul
Merry Christmas

Hello Paul,
A very fine and well constructed landscape-picture. I like the way you built up the image, with the horizon placed at one third of the vertical composition. A very subtle and interesting color-palette too, I especially like the reddish trees in the background as contrast to the blue/green foreground. The frozen white parts also give an interesting movement to the whole.
I wish you a Happy New Year and hope to see soon some other of your beautiful landscape-pictures.
Kind regards
Anne
