[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tachina fera adult, here nectaring on Pastinaca sativa - wild parsnip in a woodland clearing. It has a distinctive dark stripe on the abdomen and doncha just love those bristles ? The Tachinidae are parasitic flies, with about 8000 species worldwide and 240 species in Britain. The larvae are parasitic on moth larvae. The light was not good, so it's not technically a great photo, but I was really taken by the look of this fly.
