[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was the last Emperor Dragonfly that I phographed this year. It's slightly sad that I'll have to wait so long to see one again. I like this as my favourite colour is blue and this has plenty of it. I also love Dragonflies. This one has gone down well with my friends and it is currently hanging in two houses :-)

The flight season for this Dragonfly normally extends into August and sometimes September.

Anax Imperator

This is a male, he was patrolling and then he landed to have a rest. I managed to get as close as I could and this was the result. Males are at their peak activity around noon but they are also known to show crepuscular phases of activity at dawn and twilight. Males will perch during the hottest part of the day, although it's better described as hanging than perching. This male will patrol and defend his territory, he is able to see off most species with the exception of the Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea).

The average liftime of a male is around 4 weeks and a maximum lifetime is proibably around 8 weeks.

I hope you like him.

Paul

Nice close-up Paul!

Sharply focused and well exposed. The shallow DOF isolate the subject while giving subtle information on its environement.
Great shot and TFS

Hi Paul. A very artistic composition. I can see why your friends hang it on their wall. Everything works. Picture perfect! Very well done my friend.
P.S. How much would it cost me to get ya to send me a glossy print so that I could join the fraternity?

Hi Paul!

Arty and beautifull. Colours and composition are perfect, quality also. Like Monika said - dragon is just part of composition and looks great on blue BG and with brown grass.

Hey, good to see you posting again. Hope you are well.
A great image, excellent composition.
The poor thing looks a bit battered. Really like the curled over grass.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Paul nice to see you, love the title on this shot. And as always a very good presentation. Very interesting note. Great picture.

Lovely shot Paul!
The framing is superb. The d'fly seems to be just a part of composition not the main subject and that makes the photo quite exceptional.
Colours are beautiful, details perfect and whole shot is very clear.
I like it very much.
VERY WELL DONE & TFS

Hi Paul,
The compositionand framing is superb here. Beautiful subtle colors with sharp detail. The DOF is perfect, and he is well seperated from that beautiful blue backround. Excellent work!

Paul,
Beautifully captured and framed. I really like how you did not crop off the top of the weed the dragonfly has alighted on. Makes for a complete picture. His blue coloring is very pretty. Reminds me of childhood days long ago trying to catch those things by their wings, much better to catch them on film or cyber film, and share your great capture with all of us!
Thanks,
Dave

Nice vertical open composition in this one. Beautiful colours, clearness and lights. Great 3D effect with the BG.
Kwnowing that this one is the last this year, I encourage you to post a mushroom from time to time. Remember that some of your fungi shots are in my favourites :D
Best wishes, Felipe.
