| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Teasel - Dipsacus fullonum - is a very tall biennial with lines of prickles on its angled stems. In its first year it produces a rosette of oblong leaves spotted with pale, pustulate prickles. The flowering stem bears a large spiny, conical head, up to 80cms long, with masses of reddish purple flowers; July to August. The dead heads survive through the winter, the seeds being welcome nourishment for small birds like the Blue Tit. The dead heads can also be sprayed silver /gold and used in flower arrangements. |

Yes, I know these Dipsacus plants and they are very ornamental once cut and dried. Good close up photo.
