Kept in the Archives, from my May Visit to the Rare leopard breeding project.
This is the Persian Leopard, and a very sweet and friendly one. I was fortunate enough to get within a couple of inches of this leopard, a couple of times her tail brushing me.
I was photographing and observing this leopard for about an hour. Her name is Sade, and she has been hand reared at the centre as her mother wasn't giving milk. It is hoped that a mate can be found for her soon.

Persian Leopard, Panthera pardus saxicolor

One of the largest races of leopards, this long-haired subspecies was said to resemble the unrelated snow leopard when first described in 1929. Later, well-documented descriptions of animals from northern Iran helped develop this studbook. Subsequent animals came into captivity from the same region as well as the Kopet Dagh region of northeast Iran near Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. Little field work has been done in any of these countries but no more than 2,000 individuals are thought to remain within this otherwise large, sparsely inhabited (human) area. At one time this race was very common in European zoos, with populations exceeding 200 individuals. Sub-sequently, populations of this subspecies have declined in Europe and in January, 1999 the captive collection outside of range country zoos was 155 (82.73) leopards in 72 locations, nearly all of which are in Europe. In North America the population is less than 10 individuals maintained by eight zoos; due to a lack of space, this subspecies is being managed to extinction. The founder size worldwide is only 10 and because of the political turmoil within its tri-country range - Iran, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan - additional founders have not been available to zoos from any of these countries. In Europe, the Munster Zoo supports the EEP for this race. IUCN lists this subspecies as Endangered and suggests that the Caucasian leopard, P. p. ciscaucasia, and Persian leopard are synonymous.

"She's SWEET a and the photo is PERFECT" seems to be enough, but would it be a decent critique? ;)

I agree with Monika. Superb about sums it up, this is an excellent shot with great colour and detail, and a good composition to let you focus on that stare, which naturally is an eye-catcher. The BG is nicely blurred to focus on the subject.

Gabi

Great work Alan! This is one of most beautifull portraits of Leopard I've ever saw. Proud and sad face, excellent, 'royal' pose. Quality is perfect.

BTW - after half of season my favourite Widzew Lodz is first in second div. On second place is our biggest enemy ;-) ŁKS Lodz. I hope they both will play in first division next year.

Personal assessment of the photo: excellent portrait. Maybe I would have blured the bg.
Capacity of evocation in me: very strong.
Very strong visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent.
Personal assessment of the note: complete.
Thank you very much Alan.

Excellent capture Alan! Clear and sharp with nice colors. I like the way he was looking at you! Great details and composition. Thanks for sharing!

Great!!!

I love all the big Felidae, lions, tigers, leopards, etc... They are always so beautiful. Your photo makes no exception. This Persian Leopard is wonderful. You've added a very interesting note, thanks.

Bonjour ALAN
Ces animaux sont faits pour être pris en photo. Les yeux sont merveilleux. Pose fière. On peut voir chaque poil de la fourrure de l'animal. Belle composition!
