[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Good evening everyone, I've had a very nice New Year's Day, I hope you all have too.

Today I went to Kimmeridge Cove in Dorset. I have recently bought a wide angle lens with the express purpose of learning how to do landscapes. One thing I have learned is that it is quite hard work and is as nicely frustrating as any other photography. People and white vans are always in the way, the light is never quite right when you are set up and when you are not it's perfect but only until you set up :-) Still, I have had a great day, made even better because Miles Herbert (Pesky Polecat) turned up after I sent an SMS saying I was there. It was great chatting to you Miles and I'm really chuffed that you turned up. Miles was laughing at me on his way there as the weather was so poor, it did brighten up and then it poured with rain. I took shelter in the car and then this golden light appeared with the setting of the sun. I grabbed my camera and bits and ran back down...the light was very nice and the rain had washed away all the people who were there. Now was my chance and this is the result. This light lasted 5 - 10 minutes and was gone :-(

Thanks for looking and Miles, thanks for coming. I hope you like it.

Now I am tired, wet (as usual) and hungry...I'll try and catch up later :-)

I used a Cokin P121F ND graduated filter, tripod, mirror lockup and remote shutter control.

Hi, Paul.
What a beautiful light! Nice landscape. Good DOF and composition.

Wondefull point of view you've chosen Paul, who said you needed to learn landscape photography? I like the combination of the fluid curve of the wall with the square bricks aligned at the bottom, great contrast between the lines there.
The lighting is splendid, you've made the most out of the timeframe I would say!

Have a good 2006!
Mike

Aaaaaaaah, beautifull Paul! Fantastic colours and fantastic light. Warm reflections on rocks and sky looks superb. Composition is great also - this new Sigma is perfect for this kind of shots! These 10 minutes of light were definitelly worth to waiting for. I bet Monika will write something about hard and wet life of photographer ;-)

Paul, this is extremely beautiful.

Excellent composition, colors and mood.

I like pov too.

Perfect sharpness and dof.

Congratulations.

Hello Paul! Love the golds you've managed to capture with your perseverence! Wonderful clarity. Very good POV as to capture the cloud's reflection in the water. Hard day's work made for an excellent photo! Well done! Linda

Happy New Year, Paul!
Today is my New Year's Day, and I am spending it inside, since it is raining cats and dogs outside, with blustery winds. In fact it has been storming like this for the whole two weeks of our Christmas vacation. Not one single day to go out and take photos. : (
I envy you your sunset picture. The serenity of the scene, the angle of the view, the warm colors... The golden light is just superb.
Thank you for this gift of a promise of things to be. : )

Very nice contrast of the shades and the warm glowing terrain colors. Definitely a great shot for first attempt of landscape photography. :)

Now this is what I'm takin' bout Paul! ;-)
I have to wait a bit to get this lens with Christmas & two sets of kids I'm busted.
Your recent shots have actually inspired me to get-off my duff & explore this area of photography my friend.
Very well done.

You have captured a masterpiece here Paul!
Looks like your efforts paid off handsomely...;-)
I slept most of the day since last night was busy at work. Soon, I have to get ready to go back.
Enjoy your new wide angle lens. I look forward to seeing its future products...
Thanks,
Dave

WOW! Beautiful light, love the warm highlights on the rock... it seems it was worth it in the end, and good to see you went "wide" eventually!!! It was good to meet you today Paul, and yes, I like it (lots!).

Very nice landscape Paul, stones in the FG provide that 3D effect. Beautiful light and I like the curving lines.
A successfull 2006 with lots of landscape shots, may the light be with you (yes, the force too).
Gabi

Hi Paul,
Superb landscape composition. Its all in the light! That magic time is short but sweet. After a clearing rain the clarity of the atmosphere is always so much better. I would say you just nailed this one! I just need to know whay the object is on the distant hill? It just disrupts that beautiful curving line some. Beautiful shot my friend. Print it and hang this one up!

Hi Paul

Sound like a frustrating day, but wow... what a result! I love the ambient light. Congrats!

Hi paul , Great lanndscape, Caught in the golden Moment, quiet often the setting sun drops below a layer of cloud as it sets and lights as here with a golden glow. Very nice.
Extremly please you got to meet Miles, It is always good to hear of members meeting for real.
Keep them coming and glad you enjoyed your day out.

Paul,
Nice landscape. Excellent POV. The light is amazing. Afterall this a successful day.
Well done.

Hi Paul,
Very beautiful picture!
Excellent lighting and great composition.
TFS!

Hello Paul...
Amazing lighting! The low sun gives a very pleasant effect, and was well worth whatever efforts you had to get it... An all over great composition, where you convey the special atmosphere very well!
Regards,
Pablo -

It seems I should write something about "hard and wet life of photographer" ;)
Well, I'll just say I'm sure that taking pictures of nature wouldn't be such fun if it was easy.
The photo is beautiful. I love the lighting, the warm colours and everything else.
I have feeling we'll see lots of such amazing pictures from you Paul :)

Un superbe éclairage qui offre de jolis reflet sur les rochers.Félicitations pour cette belle composition très agréable à regarder.

Merci Paul!

joseph.

I find these landscapes still very difficult. You have magical light here, Paul. The compo is perfect. It has a nice leading line with and anchor in the building on top of the hill. The reflections are impressive. I do find it get a bit dark at the far end but it's a minor nit.

Great Landscape. Love the lighting and the way the curve leads you towards the the hill. Great overall composition, everything perfect, definitely one of my favourites.
Dean.

Superb Paul -Im jealous. Thanks for the time you spend on criting mine, much appreciated and an incentive to do better

I am now starting to have doubts about what the hell am in doing here in Sweden when the South Coast is so beautiful. I spent many days/weekends/weeks in Devon area and just love going around from place to place not knowing where to stay next, but its always worked out well. With so many B&B's around there its just the ideal getaway from London. I just love the way you have captured this shot, I remember being there when my partner was pregnant with out twins. It sure did not look like that when i was there. Great moment to remember. Well done and thanks. huhhhhh sure am missing UK at the moment...... :-(
