[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Nesting Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) was protecting three eggs on a floating mass of vegetation and plastic secured by a bridge post in Hyde Park, London.

An elegant waterbird with ornate head plumes which led to its being hunted for its feathers, almost leading to its extermination from the UK. It is now a protected species.

Thanks to Dan Bjarno (pac) for helping me identify this Grebe with his posting.

Good colours on this grebe - did you get to see his eggs?

Did you know that the male takes the infants onto his back soon after the hatc in order to protect them from predeting fish?

/Dan
