Pulpit Rock

Along the Jurassic Coast the Golden Cap rises 191 metres from the sea to form the highest cliff on the south coast. Almost immediately adjacent, the unique 18 mile long Chesil Beach stretches eastwards to the strange rocky landscape of Portland Bill.

The Isle of Portland has been famous for its white Portland Stone from Roman times. There are many buildings famous and otherwise that have been built using the limestone from its many quarries.

Pulpit Rock is the southerly-most point of the island. In the rock near the Pulpit someone has carved their name. The graffiti reads "B Low 1890"

I hope you like it.

Hi Paul,

Superb capture and what a beauty. Excellence all round.
Cheers

Mike

You are becoming an expert on long exposures. Your results are always great!
Crystal clear with excellent composition and exposure. Lovely atmosphere created. Thanks Paul.

Hello Paul,
Beautiful shot! The portrait framing version was my favourite. I'm glad to see it here. In fact I'm glad to see a new post from you too ;-)
Love the FG with rocks. It makes picture a bit different than a simple "postcard" shot and that's of course a compliment. The rocks balance the composition in a great way too. The second thing I really like here are colours. Browns of stones and blues of "misty" sea and clear sky. This picture is very yours :-)
Love it!

Hi Paul, excellent seascape. I like the effect the long exposure has had on the water. Great lighting and beautiful blue tones. Details are excellent and the shot is very well composed. well done and TFS.
Dean.

What time of the day did you capture this shot in order to get this lighting?

Hello Paul,

This is an awesome scenic shot, the exposure is excellent and the POV is an excellent choice, the slower speed enhances this beautiful shot very well. :)

Hi Paul,
Superb seascape shot. I think it looks great in the portrait framing. Flawless composition. You have to love those Canon sensors for their ability to produce such beautiful images on long exposures with no noise. Colors and detail are amazing. Great camera work!

Quite unique, Paul. Very inventive but well done. I actually think you have two shots here -- one on the top of the rock, and one on the bottom of the rocks. I almost like the bottom one better, and wish there was a bit more of the bottom rock. That said, this is really an extraordinary shot, and will give a lot of us a desire to apply the approach on various coastlines after dark.
Mike

Hi Paul

Whats not to like here. Fantastic scenery and you have shown it perfectly. The slow shutter speed has been used well here. :-)

It's nice to see one of Pulpit Rock on here, and good to see that you climbed down a ledge to get it... excellent as always Paul.

Hello Paul
What a great image with this soft and misty water.
Like this photo very much.
Very well done!
greetings Jan-arie

Hi Paul ! This is really one of the most beautiful seascapes I have ever seen ! I love the contrast between the blue of sea and sky and the warm colors of the rock. The long exposure gives a very beautiful effect on the water. Very well done !

Hi Paul,
A mesmerizing scenery.
Outstanding use of light in a gorgeous composition.
The long exposure add to the eerie mood of this shot.
TFS. : )

Fantastic capture Paul and what wonderful geology this coast has. Its very different than the Irish coast it that respect. Composition is strong and your motion blur on the water sets the standard. Excellent work.

Hello Paul,
wonderful landscape! Excellent framing, POV and composition too. I like it very much my friend.

Hi Paul,
Beautiful framing of this most interesting rock formation!
Long exposure adds this misty feeling, and I like the composition with strong foreground interest...
Good colours and fine details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

me facina esta tecnica de fotografia ademas de esa toma tan espectacular de la misma felicidades. sin palabras

Hi Paul,
Surreal effect created with the long exposure, and well after sundown shooting. The sky and sea seem almost to melt together at the horizon, with their colors merging..
You venture into new territory again..at least new to me :)
Well done mf.

Hi Paul
A truly awesome capture of this amazing seascape. The time exposure created a brilliant effect as the collective result of the passing waves makes it look like 'smoke on the water' forgive the pun.
The vertical composition was well though out or planned for this shot as it include the rocks in the foreground which gives it scale and dimension and which also leads the eye to the water surface and then it follows the bridging rock on the left until it reaches the pulpit. The colours are nothing short of stunning, the details are extraordinary as the DOF reached far and deep, and the exposure was perfectly handled.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Great shot! I love the super long exposure! It makes the water look like a sheet of ice. Great concept on this shot! TFS!

Hi Paul, A great piece of work, just like a p/card.

Excellent stuff.

Hi paul,
I missed this one during my vacation. These kind of photo really portraits the UK for me. I watched the BBC series Coast and was always impressed about these kind of sceneries. You created a beautiful photo with great depth created by the rocks in the front and the shoreline, which draw my eye toward the cery impressive rock formation. Great sharpness and exposure.
TFS,
Niek
