Well todays been another wet day so no fresh images available as all self respecting wildlife is in hidding trying to stay dry.So been looking back to see what I've missed sharring before.
This one is a Teneral phase Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyana)which means that it is not yet sexually mature or full coloured yet. During this phase of maturing they usualy move away from breeding waters so as to avoid competion / battles with the mature teritory holding males. This one is a good 1/2 Km from a breeding pond and is in my mothers 3/4hectre garden and had been there of a couple of days but as it always seemed to be in Hunting mode it was never still, 1st flying along the grass lawn at 150mm hieght then zooming upup to 4 - 5m high and straight back down the up under branches to se what was hidding then turning on a wing tip back out and off across the grass at zero altitude, just like an apache attack helicopter, could of watched it all night, (I was surrposed to be mowing the grass). then very late one evening with the sun in Vanishing mode it settled in this Elderberry tree (Sambucus nigra} the berries will turn black soon, they make great jelly and even better wine, you can turn the flowers into a sparkling wine too. and approaching very slowly and using all the manual zom available in macro mode managed to get 3 images at a distance of 120cm this is the best of them.
The pale lillac spots down his back will eventually turn a brilliant shade of Green see this on from last year he will at this point fly off to find a pond or cannal surrounded with plenty of trees, which is why they turn up in garden ponds because they think they are woodland clearings. This is a dragonfly of late summer with a flight period from July through to late september so keep your eyes peeled for this jewel of a dragon.

I wish I had a garden this size. This a stunning shot and I love the way the berries are visible through the wings. The DOF is great and the definition excellent. Well captured

Colourfull catch you did Robbert,
The dragonfly is very sharp, and the colours are great, the composition is not you best, but you captured it good and that's important too, Grate note, very good job Robbert.

Otra gran captura de una libelula Robert.
Excelente... colorido (incluso por los tonos que aportan las semillas), encuadre y una nitidez maravillosa.
Felicitaciones.

Wonderfull TN. I have learned here on TN enough to know that Paul is sarcastic. (Thanx to his joy when getting it on film) This is actually a rare moment captured here. Impresive photo. Love the way it clings to the fruit. Lovely colours and DOF. Thanx Robert.

Robert, this is a beautiful although a bit bussy picture, the red and green are very nice together. I like the overall feel but for the wings to stand out, the BG has to be less in focus. This is just a smal nit, cant let you get way SO easily!

Wow, what a color setting in this one, Robert. Very crisp and sharp capture. The berries in the background compete a little with the delicate wings, but this is a wonderful moment and I particularly like how the hawker is holding on to the berries. Well done.

Nice and sharp capture with lots of details. Not my favourite kind of background, as the wings don't stand out as they otherwise might against a more even colour, but what the heck, you take them where they are ;-))
