Libellula quadrimaculata - Four-spotted Chaser

The male and female are alike with a brownish body, golden marks on the sides of the abdomen and dark tips to the ends of the abdomen. Yellow and black basal wing patches with two black dots on each wing, give the wing a more patterned appearance than in the other two species. It has a long flight period, from early May to the middle of August.

It is the most common and widespread of the county's chasers, being found from coastal areas, heathland pools, ponds, ditches, canals and mineral workings. It is also common and widespread across most of the country.

I've been away in Spain and I've only just heard about hte fire at Thursley, this picture is from the last time I visited.

Notes are from www.lincstrust.org.uk. I hope you like it.

There is a sensor spot just below the abdomen which I forgot to remove :-(

Hi Paul!

At last something new from you! Interesting subject, good composition and quality. I don't know why exactly, but this time I like shallow DOF :-)

Hi Paul,
Great macro, beautiful detail and great colour. I agree with Greg, I like the shallow DOF. I think it works because you've got an almost horizontal POV which prevents the OOF wings from being too distracting. A great shot.
Regards,
Adrian

Hi Paul,
I like your Four-Spotted and I like DOF too, the d-fly standout nicely from the BG. Good details and nice colours.
A new lens? and a geat one too.

Hello Paul,
a very elegant composition. Great POV and the blurred background lets the main subject stand out perfecly and even gives it a 3D effect. Very well done.

Hello Paul,
A very nice capture of this chaser.
I've seen plenty but this one still eludes me!
Great DOF,excellent POV and good sharp detail.
I hope the fire wasnt too bad,its terrible to hear such news about the place.

TFS

Hello Paul :-)
It's quite amazing how hairy they are, the POV shows this well. I like the shallow DOF a lot too, the BG is very clean and the wings not distracting at all. Technically, of course, perfect :-)
Lovely shot!

Its been a while since I saw one of your Dragonfly shots.
This is a beauty, surprised you didn't post her sooner.
Lovely detail and composition, great bg as always. It's just a shame the branch is broken, can't win them all.
Thanks for posting.

Wonderful capture Paul. Clear and sharp. Great DOF and POV, and beautiful green BG that makes your dragonfly stand out very nicely. TFS!

TFS...:-)

your a master,
Your the dragonfly master of this side, you know always everything of them, the name, the piece, male or female, yes your good. this shot is perfect, the pov is great and the composition is nice too, well done Paul.

Hi Paul,

Nicely captured, full of details, beautiful colors, well done on the composition.
Good concentration on the body as oppose to a full DOF on all parts. That's thinking outside the box which makes the subject that much more interesting and artsy. Cheers.

Mike

Hi Paul

Have been out of range for internet connection over the last few days. Been in a remote area of New Zealand called The Catlins, so now it is time for me to catch up on what has been happening.

Excellent shot. Well done on everything here. Thanks. :-)

Paul, I like the image a lot. Perfect sharpness and composition; no distraction at all. I enjoy contrast and vibrant colors too, as well as saturation.

There seems to be another sensor spot on top left; mine is full of these - they're really awful.

Hi Paul, a splendid capture of the four spotted chaser. The detail and sharpness are very impressive and of course a great BG too. Very nicely done :)
