Male Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) taken at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Kent. The word Cheetah comes from the Sanskrit word Chitraka, meaning speckled. This makes me think that there might be a relationship in the names between this and the Snow Leopard, which is known in Hindi as Barfani Chita and in Nepalese as Heung Chituwa.

I’m very busy lately so I thought I’d include this short but poignant note instead of my normal page full of waffle.

The cheetah may become extinct in the wild within the next 20 years, leaving future generations with nothing more than zoo specimens and stories of how this graceful cat once ran free over the African plains. In 1900, an estimated 100,000 cheetahs roamed across Africa. By 2000, the population fell to only 15,000. Cheetahs have become extinct in at least 16 countries during the last 60 years.

Wonderful portrati, Adrian. Great subject with a great exporession. Great composition, too, I like the nice tight framing. I like the limited color palette, too. And the frame is a nice piece. It looks just a bit dull on my monitor, so I tried punching it up a bit.

Another great cat picture - very fine Adrian!

Hello Adrian,

Wow! Another impressive picture from you, my friend! Look at those eyes!!! I don't want to be an antilope in face of this cheetah! I like the nice blurred pale brownish bg being similar to the cheetah fur! I think it is the first time I notice so well the nice black line joining the eyes and the mouth. Just one thing: I wonder why we don't see any details of the nose nostrils even if the exposure seems perfect to my eyes. Great shot, Adrian and TFS,

Michel

Great classic shot, I would be proud to own.

Hello Adrian,
this is a wonderful portrait shot. Excellent eye contact! Fantastic sharpness, details, natural colours and excellent POV. Excellent framing and note too. Thank you for posting.

Hi Adrian

Beautifully captured head shot, lovely pose, POV, details and lovely colours, sad note about the decline of this beautiful animal, I know a lot of the cubs don't make it to adulthood.

Well Done
Regards Hilary

Excellent cheetah head shot the eyes are very appealing in the very nice exposed image with a very nice soft background. :)

Hi Adrian,

Hello Adrian,
Very nice portrait.I liked POV,colors,eye contact,details,sharpness,simple BG,framing and composition a lot.
TFS...:-)

Hi Adrian,
I like this sad/pensive/defying (?) expression of this beautiful Cheetah. This is a great portrait with good POV, lightning and details. I like the color of the BG that suits the animal perfectly. Interesting notes too about this fragile species. TFS. Best Regards,
Claudine

Hi Adrian !
Awesome portrait of this Cheetah ! He looks quite angry, I wouldn't want to stand in front of him ! :-) His eyes are very impressive. Excellent details and textures on the fur, beautiful warm colors, great composition and POV, and a wonderful BG which is almost the same color as the Cheetah, his camouflage is excelent. Very well done !
Valérie.

Hi Adrain,
Lovely color and light, very sharp and detailed..
Excellent framing, and you have captured the intensity of this cheetah's stare famously :)
Very well done.

Hello Adrian,
This image is WONDERFUL! I really like it. Beautiful color harmony with the background. Everything is perfect; DOF, POV, details. And I especially like the look on his face. TFS!

Hi Adrian,

Fabulous close up study of a very handsome chap. The complimentary colours of the natural looking background blend well with the Cheetah and the eye contact is excellent and something I feel is important with this kind of shot. Maybe a little more DoF if I were being really picky but looking at the EXIF you were pretty low on light so you can be forgiven on this occassion.:-)

TFS,

Mark.

Hi Adrian,
You nailed this one perfectly. Normally a b/g in the same color as the subject ruin a photo, but yours shows the great camouflage of the Cheetah. The details and the eyes are awsome.
TFS,
Niek

JN.

Hi Adrian,
Excellent potrait of this big cat. So sad to hear that this wonderful creature may extinct from the wild within 20 years. Very well done.

Hi Adrian,
A beautiful capture. Love that look and body language! Wow!
I particularly appreciate your look. Yesterday I was at an animal park and had the privilege to watch a 5 month-old cheetah cub run and play in an enclosure. It was an amazing experience.
It would be tragic if this beautiful animal should become extinct.
TFS this very well executed portrait. : )

Hi Adrian,
EXCELLENT! If that is not a look of intensity I don't know what one is.
Beautiful colors and fine detail in this shot. Overall composition and framing look great. Perfect OOF backround. Nice work my friend!
Scott

I really like this shot a lot Adrian,
If I had more room in my favs, this would be in straight away.
The details are nice, clear and sharp. I love the eye contact here.
Good colours, lighting and exposure. The POV is fantastic, and the BG looks very natural.
Well composed and nicely framed.
Thanks for posting, have a great end to the week.

Hi Adrain.

The cheetah is my most favourite animal since the childhood. I still then read about it much and till now I watch its destiny. It was very pleasant to see its photo in such brilliant execution.

Excellent colour palette, composition and very deeply and thoughtful look of cheetah.

Great job and TFS,

Hello Adrian,
Lovely shot! Cats seems to be born to be models and you know how to use it!
I very much like cheetahs and this one looks great too. He seem to be in not the best mood but his eyes are striking. I like everything about this picture though a little more Sun would probably made it even better.
Excellent work!

Hi Adrian

So what happened to you my friend? Did the rat race caught hold of you or did you move on to greener pastures? I see you have not posted any new photos since end September. Although I do notice that you pop in to contribute this and that on the ‘Forum’ and then you also make a couple of quick hit critiques, but we (I) miss your masterful postings of the assortment of felines, raptors, and various other animals you used to post.

I rest my case for the beauty of this shot. Technically, artistically, aesthetically it is perfect. That drop dead penetrating stare is absolutely magnificent. Did you dangle a rabbit in front of his face to get this reaction or is it just your ‘good looks’ that caught his attention. The colours are stunningly natural, and the details, BG, and exposure are all spot-on.

Very good work my friend and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. Keep well and may you and you loved ones have a wonderful and fulfililng 2007, on or off TN.

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for this amazing capture! I really love it. The composition and POV are perfect and it's the same for the colours and details. Thanks for the beautifull shot of my favorite big cat :D

Hallo Adrian
This just remains a beautifully created animal. The markings and patterns on the face are just amazing and you have captured this one with great clarity. The hypnotized stare is really something special and the intense look on its face is fabulous. A very nice frame filling portrait shot on this Cheetah. Superb detail and colours in the exposure. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards.
